She made a bunch of calls for me, regarding who he might be. she was the one that found out his chip was a dead end.

I would ask her if she knew someone who might be willing to foster him until another arrangement can be made.

She did say there's a mass on him. That's going to lessen his chances of adoption. Possibly having inoperable tumors.

As I understood it that was regarding the last dog they found (a female pit bull type): Last time I called animal control it was a stray pit bull looking dog. It was really sweet and had a big mass by its crotch making her look like she had a penis, well ac came and got her but they pretty promptly decided go put her down.

Yup. That was last time.

I raised Siberians long ago, but recently I closed my yorkie kennel and had 12 adults to rehome. It took a year and a half to do it. I did not use a rescue, I was the rescue and their advocate. You can successfully rehome the dog and feel good about it if you are picky and assertive in your ad, and actually say, I will investigate if you have a fence or not etc. Ask for full name and address, to see if they are a breeder trying to pull a fast one ( they will locate pure breds and register them under different registries to put them in puppy mills), or even have the proper environment for the dog. Unfortunately not everything is fool proof and even rescue dogs can fall into the wrong hands.

I was able to find good homes for my sweethearts, this way.

Kalikshama, that is a BEAUTIFUL husky...wish I can have one but the heat here in TX might get to it...

Would give me the incentive to walk him every day though...

Thanks! Sadly, he died young of cancer :(

South Florida was too hot for us. We both suffered in the summer. I walked him in the AM before the sun was all the way up and at night after it went down.

I disagree with the need for a yard. He was a stray because he'd escaped from a fenced yard. We had no yard. What we did have was the motivation to walk and take him to Dog Park.

It may be better to post on Petfinder to give him away.

I would call the most local Siberian Husky Club and see if they have someone that will foster the dog.

A lot of breed associations/clubs operate rescues very quietly this way. So, even if the nearest club is 2 hours away, they may have a member close by that is willing to foster the dog. (We adopted Raider from an Aussie Club member as a rescue)

There's a small chance we maybe could find who he belongs to today/ tonight.

I was told to ask this one lady an she thought she knew, but they were at work and she said she'd pass my number on. Well Daddy talked to same lady today and she said someone was looking for a dog, but I forgot your number, and address so I didn't pass it along, but I'll go down there in a bit.

Craigslist : Free to good home, Found Husky. Add a photo or two.

Free to good homes are never a good idea. Rescues warn about that all the time. That's how animals end up with abusers and as bait dogs.

That's two folks who've said that. I'll have to take it to heart.

Thanks, Impishhellcat and Bamabbwsub. Double hat tip.

Lead was a dud. Drove all over Delano and nobody knows anything bout anyone looking for a lost husky.

OP, take him to Sacto SPCA (http://www.sspca.org/). That's where I got my current mutt-- they are a fantastic shelter. Some of their animals have been there for months; while they're not technically a no-kill shelter, they do their level best to re-home all adoptable animals...which, from the description, yours is.

Moreover, they will provide him care, attention, and activity that you cannot, in your current circumstances.

You can also arrange to keep track of his status, so if they are going to put him down, you can be notified, and step in to take him back before that happens.

Also, with the chips, as was stated before, there are two major carriers, and a listing on one will not show in the other. Make sure to get the number from the vet and call both services yourself, just to ensure that the owner is not readily available (usually, if the chip wasn't planted by the owner, it was planted by the shelter it was adopted from, and they can point you in the right direction, too). Locator services NEVER expire...although it is up to the owner to keep their contact info current with the service.

Finally, in the local area, Craigslist is a terrific resource for re-homing. While I was looking for Current Dog, I responded to a few listings on CL, and each owner was responsible, inquisitive, and looking out for their animals, even though they had to part with them. Each time, the dog in question was taken by another responder who had beaten me to the punch-- and each offered a good home. You can make adoption contingent on a photocopy of an ID and a home visit; that, itself, will eliminate any criminal who is considering misusing or abusing the animal.

LittleGirlHeart -> ok! he went home, thanks everyone. (5/26/2013 5:33:18 PM)

Really? That's all we get? A few more details would be nice. Did you find the owner? A foster home? What the hell happened?

Seconded ^^^

I found someone who was looking for a Siberian or a German shepherd, who didn't have any other dogs, who had the time to devote to a still youngish dog. He couldn't have been any older than 1!

You must have been exhausted. You were out for 6 hours.

Congrats on a job well done.

(More details)

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: ok! he went home, thanks everyone. (5/27/2013 10:20:25 AM)

Ok so you would not believe how crazy this dogs story has been!

He is apparently an extremely good escape artist!

I posted on a website about him, and a lady said I had found him too, I had him for a week, I had him in my kennel and he managed to open the latch on the kennel and ran off, I caught him, brought him back home, this time I put him in the house, 5 days go by, I'm looking for who might own him, no luck. Nobodies put up flyers, nobody has been canvassing the neighborhood nothing. One night she left her window open a tiny bit and went for a run and when she got back he had figured out how to open the window and had bust the screen out and run away. Only this time he was long gone when she had got home..

Then I saw a.picture of a husky, looked just like him, on the lost animal group, called the woman and she said no it's not him, but I do know who you are talking about, A friend of mine found him running around lost by the community center. ShE brought him home, and was going to put up flyers and she left him in her yard, she had a secure 6 foot tall fence, she thought he would be ok. She goes to work, comes home and he's gone.

I don't know how much time has passed, maybe some maybe not much.

So then I am coming out of the house, getting ready to go to taco bell with my dad, and my neighbor ask do you know who this dog belongs to? I said I didn't, no, but hold onto him for 10 minutes Please, and I will be back from taco bell and I'll call animal control.

I call, they said they will not come out for possibly two days, I said ok and called Jody to borrow a crate, we take him with us thinking hey,you know.maybe they can scan him for a chip. They did, chip was a dead end.

My dad thought he might want him, so I cancel th e call, dad decides he doesn't after all. I don't reschedule the call because I am afraid that something bad would happen to him if I did.

I posted on several local groups, I called rescues, Daddy Walked the entire neighborhood, twice even, my dad drove me door to door with the dog. Nada. However one of the people I asked if he knew who it might belong to, and if he didn't did he know any one who
Wanted one, said his father in law had been wanting a husky or a Shepard for a long time, let me see if he wants it, so he called and the FIL did. So I took the dog to his house and I even gave him the collar and leash that had been Gingers, that i had put on doggy to keep him under control.

Before I agreed to turn him over though, I made sure to tell him this dogs an extremely good escape Artist, and he is NOT dog friendly, he has already attacked my Golden retriever twice, and snarls at her when ever she passes the crate. He said ok, I understand, I don't have any dogs, and he gave me 20 dollars to help me out with the food he ate.

Awesome! Great effort-- wonderful ending to the story. You did good. Thanks for sharing.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: ok! he went home, thanks everyone. (5/27/2013 9:01:09 PM)

Thank you. I always try to catch and keep safe to return any dogs I can. I hate how some people take the it's not my problem, who cares what happens attitude.
