your thoughts on this terrible event

PeonForHer -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 11:49:49 AM)

Unbelievably hideous.

And, already, English Defence League members, plus sundry other goosestepping turds, are showing up to fuck up the situation further, while decent muslims get even more afraid.

Politesub53 -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 12:09:39 PM)

My first thoughts on seeing this unfold yesterday were as follows. One of the killers was clearly British (He has Nigerian heritage) as he had a London accent that only comes from being raised there. Sure enough he was born in Lambeth, the same district as me. His parents were both very religious, church going Christians. He had converted to Islam within the last decade. As Peon says, decent Muslims are afraid of a backlash, exactly the thing these people wanted to start.

Our own far right arseholes are sadly happy to oblige. A few young Muslims were happy with news of the attack. The majority, all creeds and Religions wer appalled.

Not much is known about the second guy except he is possibly of Nigerian extraction.

Thats what I thought when I saw the clip, that fool is English, although I didn't get the Lambeth connection, but I did get the Broadmoor one, where he needs to go, but that is downtown now, oi?

Politesub53 -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 12:38:28 PM)

Spotted it as soon as he spoke, he sounded like the black kids I grew up with. The other guy didnt seem all there and I wondered if they were high. You may have a point about Broadmoor though. One well known BBC reporter described the attacker as "of Muslim appearance" but has since apologised. My guess is home grown radicals influenced by the internet and extremist clerics like Abu Qatada.

mnottertail -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 12:47:36 PM)

Yes, untoward, and unfortunate; that.  I wonder what a muslim appearance is?

I must confess though, you do appear to me to be of Anglican appearance, but I can't be certain with your gub buried in that tetley teacup, old chap.

PeonForHer -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 2:30:42 PM)

No doubt about that at all - Brit, born and bred. London - and your particular area, too, PS. You don't have to be Prof Henry Higgins to pick that out in a flash.

Well, how did the commentator (I assume BBC) get his fucking bloody gub to turn such a phrase in the first place?  That is uncharacteristic to say the least. Have they binned the rotter?

No idea if they've got rid of him. But it was certainly a bit looney to talk about a 'muslim-looking person'. Me, if I assume anything at all, I'll generally assume someone looking like a black African in London to be a Christian, and of the heavy-duty Bible-thumping type, at that. But the reality is that lots of quite different races can be, and are, muslim. For instance, Mohammed Ali and Osama BL didn't really look similar.

I don't know the BBC reporter in question, but I'm guessing that he's on the young and twatty side. Boarding school followed by Uni; studying so hard all the while he had no time to leave the house and actually see people. You know the sort of thing.

mnottertail -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 2:58:53 PM)

Well I havent had the English language spoken at me since 1972 and I could tell he was from London way or south, not quite cockney, but some posh in there and talked like a mouthfull of marbles, very round.  But he was born with it.

I mean the brotha wasnt Liam Neeson, or Queen Noor or Cat Stevens, and I guess that was what confused me about he looked 'Muslim', but his tan is why I thought he was from down south.

FrostedFlake -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 3:09:44 PM)

Cobra.

Impressive. That'll keep the terrorists at bay.

YN -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 3:53:45 PM)

A yawn. If the killers had not made the jihadic statements they did, and instead satisfied themselves with the victim's wallet and cellphone. it would probably not made the national news in the UK.

An internal security matter.

Yawn all you like. All killings in the UK make the headlines.

No I think trying to hack someone to death with a machete in the middle of London is quite dramatic enough that nothing more need be said to make this international news. I mean the man is standing there with the machete and bloodied hands. I don't think that's a sight too many see in London (or is this common place?) This seems quite horrific, on many fronts, and I'm not even talking about the politics.

As an American, the one thought I had was that at least they have gun control and this guy didn't have an assault weapon and wipe out 50 people in the same amount of time.

Machetes don't kill people; people kill people - but just one at a time.

Politesub53 -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 4:39:33 PM)

Here is a basic timeline.

The killers are driving down the road. They then mount the pavement (Thats a sidewalk Ron ).
They stop the car, get out and go to the victim.
Onlookers think they are giving first aid, but are horrified to see the two guys killing the soldier.
The killers calmy walk to the onlookers, telling them to call the police.
The police arrive, the killers rush them and are both shot but not killed.

If anyone thinks this is other than a terror related attack, they need to get a grip.

Latest news is a man and a woman have been arrested but this is probably for questioning. No suggestion of charges as yet.

YN -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 4:40:08 PM)

According to reports, he did have a handgun in his hand during this murder.

Politesub53 -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 4:41:00 PM)

FTP...... You are right as per usual, the fact a man was hacked to death makes it headline news here.

Politesub53 -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 4:52:23 PM)

YN, yes eye witnesses reported seeing a gun. The police havent mentioned it in any of todays briefings though. My opinion is if there was a gun it would have been mentioned by now.

PeonForHer -> RE: serving soldier hacked to death on streets of london (5/23/2013 4:55:28 PM)

FR

Please, someone tell me that a man being hacked to death with machetes in broad daylight in a busy street would make it to the headlines in the USA. Whatever the motive of the attackers.
