Ideology is totally irrelevant here.

But, yet again, we are witness to why access to assault weapons may not be the best thing for society as a whole.

But if that is all you have ever read then it is clear that your personality does not like to read.

Pffft.

There are always people who make the claim that the shooters are right wing or left wing.

Neither wing advocates killing people.

Oh but the do.
This wing wants to kill abortion doctors.
That wing wants to kill the "evil doers".

Again...those are both extremists. Small numbers, but very vocal.

I would agree that they are both extremist but how many tens of thousands pairs of boots did bush&co put on the ground in search of killing the "evl doers". How many religious junkies of all stripes support killing abortion doctors or some other perceived "bad guy" that their invisible friend thinks ought to die?

In keeping with your young male extra-propensity-to violence, thread ...

All The Young Dudes ...

True enough.

If we're speaking about some countries in Africa, or the Middle East (especially if you live next door to Palestine or Israel), or some sectors of Latin America, that's one thing.

But why people would want to advertize the fact that the US is at that same level as those countries, by way of claiming that we have some 'requirement' for such weapons for personal security in their neighborhood, in this country, is beyond me.

If I honestly thought that I needed an AK-47 to protect my house, I'm looking at another country to move to, yesterday.

"All the Young Dudes" - - have not heard that in a very long time....fab

I have to say, when I saw the clip of the shooting, I really felt badly for the cops. Truly. To pull someone over for a traffic violation and then be attacked by an assault weapon. How scary for them. I've noticed some buzz on the Internet criticizing the cops for shooting him down with so many bullets, but seriously, what would anyone else do under the circumstances? I'm not a supporter of cops just shooting for no reason - but if this isn't a valid reason, then what is??

I also feel if someone wants to commit suicide - just go do it. But people need to stop trying to take others out at the same time....

And for those who think we can identify the crazies ahead of time - what, pray tell, would have tipped the officers off to this??

An ak47 is a pretty fair infantry weapon but for home defense I think a few stout pick handles placed stratigically about the home would be more effective and not nearly as lethal.
It is pretty difficult to appologize for accidently giving someone a concussion but it is impossible to appologize to the dead.

Perhaps that was his purpose. Have a blazing "butch&sundance" last stand.kill as many cops as possibe and not worry about spending any time in the joint letting them "get even" with him.

bahaha [:D]

Those were just the 13 that first came to mind. My built ins are full 3 deep, and my 5' ones are full 2 deep. I can;t seem to throw away a book.....ever.....

My point was that I am dubious about the idea that someone can be pigeon-holed based on a sampling of their personal library.

I think when he's shouting out "kill me" to the cops in the video, we can safely conclude that this was his purpose. Too weak to pull the trigger on himself, but figured he would go out "fighting". Another rebel with a misguided cause....

I believe my point was that the contents (not a sampling)of a persons library(assuming that they have read the books contained there in) would give insight to that persons personality. That is a long way from pigeon-holing somene.
Since it appears that size matters to you...mine is bigger...40' shipping container all 4 walls lined floor to ceiling two deep, doulbe center row floor to ceiling lined two deep on both sides. The two access asles are only a foot wide so one must side step.[;)]

When I lived in the largest city in NC, there was an incident where, at a traffic stop (unconstitutional, as all traffic stops, or "street stops" are) some 'old guy' had picked up a hooker on the street, to get some crack, and whatever 'services' from the young lady, freaked out at the traffic stop, ran through it, without any genuine harm to anybody, and 5 cops emptied their guns immediately into the fleeing car (investigation revealed that all clips were emptied completely), killing the young woman, who had no control over the situation at all. (but not the idiot driver, who will die in prison, what an idiot).

And now we have this wacko, where I agree with you completely: there was nothing else for the police to do, in that case.

Wonderful world, isn't it?

You definitely win lol. Now THAT is a lot of books.

Now that I think about it....someone would probably think I was a right brained, somewhat bipolar, artsy fartsy, mushy romantic....and that isn;t too far off base. The sociopath book was actually research for writing.....maybe....bwahahahaha

jlf1961 -> RE: The latest rightwing domestic terrorist...... (5/13/2013 3:29:04 PM)

I have approximately 500 books in my library, ranging from history, college texts, religion, Crime Fiction, Sci Fi, technical, military manuals, philosophy, and numerous books considered subversive in nature. However if you were to use any of the information in those books, you would probably blow yourself up.

On a more important note, as long as the right wing terrorists are getting all the attention, I can continue with my own agenda... specifically detonating semi trailer dirty bombs (non radioactive) I mean really dirty bombs. Full of dog shit. Targets are cities with BSL laws.

To continue...I have acquired another 40' conntainer and have installed the shelves[:D]but since there are only a few hundred books in it it appears barren. I am addicted to swap meets and books (now that we have the internet) are dirt cheap.
On saturday I picked up a dozen books for five dollars They appear to be unread and the jacket price on the dozen books amounted to several hundred dollars....I buy mostly non fiction but always in the mood for unique examples of prose.
Once I found a boxed set of "topper" by by thorn smith...high quality porn from the fifties.

Back in my band days, long ago, serious 'bad boy music.'

We had to convince the lead singer that he wasn't a 'fag' if he sang this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLnPd7lzT4g

But it's just too funny, no way I could avoid foisting this on the band.

Careful, you're dealing with a huge David Bowie fan on this end....saw him twice in concert when much (much) younger....wish I had seen him more often than that....
