Alaska is one of my bucket list places to go as well. Since I did a good portion of Europe last year, that one is checked off.

The cold doesn't bother me too much if there isn't a lot of wind.

Here in NJ, the weather has been typical spring. It warms up, then gets cold and we get some snow (even just flurries), then it gets warm, then chilly.

To me a temp between 50-65 is ideal. Yesterday was probably betwee 55-62 and I was comfortable in shorts and summer top. Of course ever since menopause, 35 is still warm to me, lol.

I'm amazed that you have mosquitos in Alaska LadyPact I "just knew" that would be far too north for those little pests. I think they are already out in full force here with such a mild winter and wet spring that we've had.

The only place Ive seen with mosquitos to compare to Alaska is in the mangroves in subtropical/tropical areas.

They will suck you dry.

Certainly don't want to de-rail this with mosquito talk but between them and the damn fire ants this year, we'll be swatting and side-stepping before we even ever get outside. Guess that means I need to rethink my trip to Alaska and the mangroves

Spring here is usually marked by the two weeks of the year when the hills turn green, and then are painted in brilliant oranges, yellows and blues by our desert wildflowers. After two drought winters in a row, it just never happened this year.

It's supposed to be 96 on Sunday, but the cooler on the house isn't running constantly quite yet. By the local norms, we should still get one more cool down into the 60s, and probably another windstorm or two, before summer comes on, and the high 90's are considered a comfortable day.

You are on the east coast, so don't forget this year, we also have the Brood II cicadas to make being outdoors a miserable experience.

Rich, I've been wondering very specifically what the weather is like there. If you remember, we used to live not far from you. I think I'd be in shock to live where it's in the 90's now.

On a personal note, we're getting the grill out for it's inaugural run this weekend.

Years ago, I was a crew chief for a friend who professionally race motorcycles one summer. We went to Minnesota, the "Land of a Thousand Lakes." It was the land of a million bugs and mosquitos.

Someone had said to me they had "skeeters big enough to breed a turkey flatfooted." I just looked at the guy and nodded. About 3 hours later, at dinner, the mental picture finally came to my mind. Those were some damn big mosquitos!

You were just a couple hours up the road, I think, LadyP. The wife and I may finally be coming to the point where we get the same days off again (fingers crossed - it's been damn near 4 years).

I'll gripe about too hot in the summer/too cold in the winter, but living where I do, the grill never really gets put away, and cooking outside on New Year's day is a little tradition I love.

I saw the mosquitos mentioned. Isn't that the state bird, up where you are now?

Wonderful!!!! I had forgotten this was "their" year ... arrgghhh. Of course it all makes sense ... we've had enough rain this past winter to bring the lake level back up ... first year in many that we can get out and enjoy - along with all the many pests too!!!

That's right. I wasn't sure if you would remember. (Man, I miss the kitchen in that house.)

I tease the other half something fierce about what his definition of too cold used to be when we were in CA. Same temperature here now means the doors and windows are open. I'm officially one of those people who are running around in a tank top and shorts for fifty degrees now.

People do that joke about the state bird up here, too. The size they can get is unreal. Same with the crows for some odd reason.

I'll keep My fingers crossed for you.

I don't currently have a grill (which sucks), but when I did, I used it year round, and that included snowstorms. Nothing better than a steak on the grill.

April had the coldest day since they started keeping records for the month............ so this year, in Arkansas, we are actually having a spring. A weird cold one day, hot the next spring, but we didn't go from snow straight into 90 degree temperatures. It has been LOVELY!
I've had the chance to plant shrubs and flowers without having the poor things wilt straight away from the humidity and temperatures. In fact, its actually hammock weather.

Since I got to Austin Wednesday, we had 2 days of storms...with being hailed on one of them. One of Bo's co-workers' gave him a ride home before the 2nd one (where I got hailed on). Been sunny and humid since then...Lizard and I are going to play bingo tonight...I am leaving Thursday to cuss Mom out for hobbling around the house without her crutches.

Flippin' hot here today. It wasn't the full July blast furnace when you stepped outside, but pushing 100. Missed the record high from 1972 by better than 5 degrees, though. Then we are supposed drop close to 20 degrees by Wednesday.

Spring in the high desert. If you don't like the weather, it'll change tomorrow.
