OK- given this crowd's track record which looks pretty good- I've got a short story I've been trying to track for years....and its got to be at least 40 years old.
Set on Earth where humans are replaced by clones as they die off. Problem is that the clones have no originality- so they can only redo what's been done before. One of for the last guy remaining was that his girlfriend had built an old bower that she wanted him to admire, rather than a new one. I think one of the insults in the story was- "go eat a slippery, sloppery mango- on television." Anyone remember the author or the title of the story?
