Duh... that was my point all along. Are you sure you understand what I posted?

quote:

Funny, I don't know of ANY departments that use ball ammo because ball has a tendency to go through the target. Every agency in Indiana uses hollow point self defense rounds

I merely posted what info I could find.

You jumped to assumptions yet again.

I jumped to nothing, you're the one who got the military and police confused when you brought up the treaty. It has nothing to do with the topic, or the sidebar.

ROFL

No dear, you assumed I was arguing that police didnt use balls, which is far from the truth.

Ken said anything but balls were forbidden.

You said no department uses balls.

I pointed out through my post....

Funny, buried within an arricle criticizing Democrats for their positions regarding ammo...

The second myth promoted by the four Democrats relates to the alleged use of hollow point ammunition by the U.S. military. While some military police use the ammunition like other law enforcement agencies, U.S. combat forces do not use hollow point ammunition because of the 1899 Hague Declaration.

What you neglected to see what I was actually backing up your point.

Again, try taking the partisan blinders off and actually read what people post.

.38 is a pretty pathetic cartridge and I would not rely on it to stop anyone. the larger calibers tend to be very large guns with serious recoil

A compact .45 is not a "very large gun" and its sub-sonic rounds do not inflict "serious recoil" on the shooter. There are many smaller caliber supersonic rounds that will kick more, particularly in weapons with light overall weight.

Snap shooting is far easier with a shotgun (that's sort of why there is a sport involving shotguns and suprise flying targets).

Trap shooting is not conducted at ranges of 10-15 feet.

Shotguns can be much shorter than any AR. A pistol grip pump with a short tube (3 rounds) can be right down at the legal limit.

You would make fewer of these clang comments if you would adopt the practice of actually reading what people say:

except for something like a Tromix-modded Saiga, I'd favor a .45 on all counts.

Additionally, home invasions often involve multiple intruders. Recommending a weapon that holds only three rounds reflects a Biden-esque concept of reality.

But it does involve snap shooting and is conducted with shotguns not rifles.

Additionally, the AR is both lighter and shorter, much shorter if it has a collapsible stock, and thus faster and easier to weild.

Which is exactly what I responded to. Now where precisely did you get an AR that with the stock folded was shorter than 26"?

How many home invaders do you think would stick around after the second much less third  or fourth shotgun blast? If hard core killers that aren't intimidated by that many shotguns blasts are coming into your home they are going to kill you no matter what and a .45 (with what 7 rounds in the mag?) isn't going to make any difference.

You really need to read things. It would help.

I don't know, Ken. Would you like to bet your wife and kids to find out? And by the way, you can stop counting at three for that stupid little pump. Which means if they're the type to shoot back, you're in deep shit. The Tromix mod feeds from a 10-round detachable box magazine.

Nice snip are you willing to risk your wife and kids on at most 8 rounds in your .45? Personally I'd rather get the 4 shotgun blasts off.

Well gee, let's see. Three rounds in a pump, versus 8 in a weapon with a detachable magazine that I can recharge in one second flat. Okay, I got it. Hold on. Just let me think.

Sorry DK,

but I gotta go with K on this...I would much rather have the semiauto than the shotty for multiples....I can aim faster and get more rounds on more targets faster.

Editted to add:

Again----"the best gun is the gun you are best with"

Pretty much just about any gun will suffice for home defense though certainly some are better than others and the shotgun is a devastating weapon if you can handle it but the Biden logic is simply a ruse to try and make people think we don't need AR 15's, therefore they should be banned or whatever. Is this what you're trying to get at ?

A .45 is also a devistating weapon even with only 7 + 1 rounds though if you had a clue you would know the common 1911 single column magazine now is 8 rounds, not that you need that many because after all its a .45. If that's not enough then you might be interested to know the Para Ordinance 1911 uses a 13 round mag and others also that use 13 rounds too.

Just basing my knowledge on the real M1911 I had in the service before they took it away and gave us 9's. I've never owned any handguns as I don't particularly see any need for one.

The point of this long foray is that Biden was not lying when he said a shotgun is superior to the AR for home defence. It is a matter of opinion and many gun users would agree with that opinion.

If I had the chance I'd try and get them as they tried coming through a doorway. The shotgun would be psychologically devestating if it was more than 1. Personally my goal would always be to get the enemy to withdraw so I put me and mine at the least possible risk.

of course but the discussion was about which is best for the not serious about guns woman who wants a firearm for home defence.

FunCouple5280 -> RE: NRA Misrepresents Police Survey, Legislation (5/3/2013 2:22:01 PM)

For home defense, a shotty is better than an AR in my opinion.....But I love my AR for coyote hunting, [:D]

great caliber for and the big mags and rapid rate of fire is awesome when you have a pack and some of them being moving targets.

Now praire dogging is where it really shines!!! Target rich environment, light kick, varmit sized round, quick fire for briefly appearing targets. The ultimate game of whack-a-mole.

I can see shooting coyotes but prairie dogs? Are they pests or do you eat them?

Personally I mostly hunt deer with one foray into turkey. The only gun I still own is my Henry .30-30 for deer and target shooting (best $700 I've ever spent I think).

FunCouple5280 -> RE: NRA Misrepresents Police Survey, Legislation (5/3/2013 3:11:48 PM)

Prairie dogs and coyotes are pests to ranchers. the dogs break the legs of cattle and the coyotes pick off calves. I wouldn't touch the disease ridden rodents (sometimes they are plague carriers). The coyotes don't taste good at all, yuck. But the pelts are great. We hunt them after the winter coats come it. You can make an awesome, rug/blanket that is very warm when camping/hunting in winter months. Plus it can be very soft. Some ranchers will pay a bounty on coyotes too. We always end up on private land for those guys.

That looks like it. The brass version is much more expensive so I went with the steel and the round barrel.
