Laughing would have been better than panicking, LL. As I said earlier, I'd imagine the worst fear a pilot would have would be that of his passengers going into a panic.
I had a friend with Tourette's at Uni, many moons ago. He always said that the first and most crucial thing to do was 'lighten the vibe'. It helped him, and it helped everyone else around him. God knows, you need 'first aid' measures, in some situations.
Which is why the pilot made the decision that the man could not be on the flight. The reality is that an entire plane full of people should not have to "lighten the vibe" for one passenger, nor should they need to receive an education about tourettes.
This young man knows what his issues are and was planning this trip for two years. Did he not consider that he might fixate on something resulting in something like this? It would have been no different if he fixated on the plane malfunctioning and kept repeating "we're going to crash."
I understand his issue and have some sympathy for his plight. But when you have a disability, you have to consider what you will do in various cases when things regarding your disability become an issue. It isn't fun, but it is part of what must be done.
