US pledges expanded support for Syrian rebels but no military aid
John Kerry offers $60m in 'non-lethal' assistance for Syrian opposition fighting Bashar al-Assad

Arms Airlift to Syria Rebels Expands, with Aid From C.I.A.
With help from the C.I.A., Arab governments and Turkey have sharply increased their military aid to Syria’s opposition fighters in recent months, expanding a secret airlift of arms and equipment for the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, according to air traffic data, interviews with officials in several countries and the accounts of rebel commanders.

Syrian opposition to establish moderate form of Islamic law
Clause three of the code, as presented in documents circulated among opposition legal experts, states that "governing justice will be in accordance with the provisions of Sharia law".

Things are going to be so much better now.

Oh my....scary brown people.....run!

DaddySatyr -> RE: Lies, Damn Lies, and Friends of Jihad (4/19/2013 11:22:53 AM)

The fact that the US has been building empire in one way, shape, form or another for years cannot be denied, especially when it comes to our actions in the Middle East.

That our government lies to us and runs countless "covert ops" that we never find out about is also pretty pointless to argue against.

I'm more concerned that the PPLs of the world are, apparently, giving up on step 2 of their debating regimine.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Laughable that most of those on the right didnt speak up when Bush was doing the same in Iraq. Now Obama is doing it its piss and moan time.

Whippedboy -> RE: Lies, Damn Lies, and Friends of Jihad (4/19/2013 1:17:41 PM)

Liberal argument playbook? LOL
Let me know when you find an "informed conservative" to argue with.
Might find a unicorn first.

They cheerleaded when it was our troops getting killed for a lie. Now Obama has toppled one dictator with a proven record of attacking the US and our allies and is working on another without losing a single US soldiers life and the right wingers are apoplectic.

until now this 60m or so is still ink on paper..
I think its just something to let those ppl sleep at night.. knowing that they helped to speed things up.
I really don't care who ends up ruling the both sides suck... but I would like this killing to stop.
I would like to get my things they took back ... I would like to get out of my home & go buy smokes at 4am with no one asking me what the hell am doing & where is my id?

I would take those 60m from you, coz now I have nothing... how I am suppose to defend myself in front of a soviet tank?
I would really like it if I can type this without the sounds around me .. which are heavy gunfire of 50 cal or something bigger & its coming & going for almost all day.

PS: think of those 60m is an .. ( I don't know what you call it) an advance payment maybe?
if I get out of Damascus ... I would become an illegal immigrant & government will have to pay me.. think that 5 million of Syrians came to us.. how muck would the government pay them?
only 5 mil of 19 mil who still in Syria like me trying to get the hell out..

Go read DailyKos and you will find lots of it. Personally since he's actually going after bad guys that have attacked us in the past and not risking our soldiers lives in the doing I'm fine with it.

More American tax dollars at work...

Syria says two bishops kidnapped by rebels

Two prominent Syrian bishops, who had warned of the threat to religious tolerance and diversity from the two-year conflict in their country, were kidnapped on Monday by armed rebels in the northern province of Aleppo, state media said... Fears for their future if the rebels were to end 40 years of Assad dynastic rule, which ensured religious freedom without political rights, have increased with the growing strength of Islamist rebels and a pledge of allegiance to al Qaeda by the hardline Nusra Front rebels two weeks ago

Islamist Ultimatum to Syrian Christians: Convert, Leave, or Die

Syria's Christians fear an Islamist takeover should the current government be overthrown... Firsthand accounts from Syrian Christian refugees in Lebanon reported by award winning investigative journalist Nuri Kino detail the horror in which they described kidnappings, rapes, harassment, theft and other violent reprisals at the hands of Islamist groups. Those who survived reported "just being Christian is enough to be a target," disproving theories that violence and kidnapping directed towards Syrian Christians is purely incidental or for economic reasons.

Helping make the world a better place.

Not only is' liberal logic' correct but I do no longer believe what ANY govt. tells me. I lost faith in our govt. long before 9/11 and so-called Arab spring.

Chaos happens during a civil war. The Assad regime has killed many thousands of Syrians plus who knows how many Lebanese and Israelis. Are you really suggesting we should let him stay in power?

Well first of all, I don't see it as any of our business or in any way affecting our interests. But even leaving that aside, helping a different gang murderers seems a poor solution. And I do not appreciate the government spending our tax dollars to fund radical theocratic movements, period. If Israel is what this is all about, fuck'em. I'm not too happy with the current Israeli government. And in any case, they are armed to the teeth (thanks to us) and can certainly defend themselves. But I don't really think that's what's at the heart of it. At most, it would only be an excuse. And I don't much care either way. We have our own problems. Food, housing, medical care, jobs. I'm getting a little tired of wondering where the needs of ordinary Americans rank in the government's priorities.
