FelinePersuasion -> A question about the tiny font results not typical in diet adds. (6/23/2006 10:44:16 AM)

I have a question about all these diets like south beach and atkins and jenny craig and weight watchers though, how come in all the pictures and adds they say I've done so great I'm a size two now and then in reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally tiny print all the adds say results not typical.  Isn;t that like an oxy moron?

I can understand the ones that put along with a proper diet and exorcise in tiny font flashed for two seconds, but results not typical?

No, it's good advertising.

People don't want to read/see/hear about doing work or be reminded that they aren't doing what they should.

Saying "not typical" means it gives the person hope that they can be that atypical person, and doesn't make them think about the work they have to do.

the results not typical thing also saves the company a bit of false advertising lawsuit hassle. :)

Its pretty self explanatory ...

Most people who join those diet groups will not loose that much weight or they will not loose it that quickly or they will not look that good once they've lost it or etc etc etc ...

When they make a commerical they naturally choose the best, most succesful participants in their program ... Not everyone is going to be the best.

Therefore, results not typical.

ok!:) That's more clear then.

I have also seen where it says your results won't be the same as karens, IT does make sense for them to have that.

There is a saying caveot emptor* yes I just totaly mis spelled it* It means let the buyer beware.

Translation:  This is a model we hired.  We photoshopped some weight on her for the "before" part.  Actually, you can lose this much weight with our system but the "with health diet" means you are sent to a concentration camp and "exercise" means you work out 20 hours a day with a certified sadist
