A bit of St. Patrick's Day science.

Thanks DC. I love snakes. I'm hoping to get one as my next pet, as soon as I figure out where to put it.

Thanks for the article, dc. I will concede snakes are
useful for disease carrying rodent control and are
usually inclined to avoid humans. They also unfortunately
consume other useful creatures like frogs who help us
out with flies and sometimes turn into princes when kissed.

They generally give me the willies, slithery symbols of the
id that they are but some are rather beautiful and I've always
liked them as motifs in jewelry( to the Victorians they were a
symbol of eternal love).

Happy Saint Patricks Day!

FR

Just as an interesting anecdote, for anyone vaguely considering a visit to Ireland: One thing that I'd considered stereotypical - the myth of 'Irish blarney' - turned out, in fact, to be not. I found that I could go into a supermarket and talk to a checkout assistant and, afterwards, feel a need to consult a dictionary. Likewise getting a paper from a newsagent-cum-sweetshop. The Irish really, *really* do language like no English-speakers I've ever come across. 'Walking dictionaries' are everywhere. It's no wonder to me now that they've produced novelists, poets and playwrights out of all proportion to their numbers. It was a frigging weird experience, that trip.

How can they be wankers? They have no hands.

I know that Anne McCaffrey lived in Ireland until her death. Ireland was offering a tax program for artists and writers and she moved there with her kids. I don't know if Todd is living there but he is carrying on his mother's work. Long live Pern!

MrRodgers -> RE: St. Patrick's Day! (3/18/2013 8:27:38 AM)

Being Irish it should mean more to me but now it only seems as if all things center around cheap green beer. Well, ok...if .25 a glass counts as cheap.

I was thinking of food dye in my Corona. Too much trouble. Yes, especially $10 a six pack.....
