On these forums I will occasionally offer some advice, insight, or experience I have had when someone has posted a problem. I might add in 2 or 3 more comments over the life of the thread, but no more. Honestly, I really don't feel the need to molly-coddle people who continue to follow their folly despite obvious evidence. If people can't handle this stuff then I think it is better to get stung enough until you learn to stay away. I am a big believer in culling the herd. That story persuades me that at least regarding affairs of the "heart", some people stop developing their intelligence at around age 12. There should be a Darwin award for this stuff.

That article implies his friend warned him, it didn't say he knew. Pretty typical. People are remarkably blind when it comes to emotions. I rarely watch DrPhil, but I caught an episode last month about this middle aged women who believed the story about her unmet internet romance. They showed her IP info, they showed her google research on his name.. and his aliases, they waited on his response but of course though he knew they were calling, never answered. I think she spent 79,000 on that guy. And regardless of the evidence of his deception, she denied, denied, denied that he could be anything but the Mr Wonderful she knew him to be. Ya know...I have been cheated on, lied to, and deceived, but I always knew what it was and that it was MY deal whether or not to accept it. I never lied to myself about what was really going on, or deluded myself as the guy in that article, or that stupid woman on DrPhil.

What a train wreck. He's brilliant about physics (or at least productive) and dumb about everything else. He also suffers from delusions of grandeur and assumes that the world revolves around him. It's amazing how he thinks that because he knows physics, he's smarter than everyone around him. Look at the trail of incriminating emails he left. He was a raw novice dealing with experienced narcodetectives and thought he'd easily fool them.

Sure this guy may be prone to random calculations, but I'm not buying that using the almost exact weight of the drugs he was carrying was a coincidental calculation.

Ah.. I missed the weight part. Likely he knew, but I am thinking his delusions of grandeur combined with his need to believe she loved him (check that.. WANTED him, a key point for an older divorced person), allowed him to take that step.

This topic reminds me of something my boss told me today. He said he believes in baptism by fire....throwing me straight into the work since he feels it's the fastest and best way to learn what I am doing there. And ya know, I agree with the topic. Let people get "baptized".

LOL My first supervisor had that philosophy. Which is part of the reason why he is no longer my supervisor. The supervisor I have now actually started the program, left when he got a promotion but was asked to take over the program again when my old supervisor made such a mess of the program after 3 years. He's been back for 4 years. I've worked there for nearly 5. We make a good team. I hardly ever saw my original supervisor, even when I first started on the job. He never taught me anything about what to do and I was lucky if I saw him once a month. And when the job changed from peer specialist to psych rehab, he gave me the documentation forms and told me to figure it out. It took the supervisor I now have hours upon hours of diligent patience to teach me how to document my work along with everything else he's taught me over the years. I see him at least once a week and we communicate almost every day one way or another--often even if one of us isn't working. He'll often bother me early in the morning and I often bother him late into the evening. More often than not it is me bothering him because of stress and because he knows I'm not a morning person and he doesn't like getting me up unless its a real emergency. I usually text him in the evening when I'm stressed and he knows that he doesn't need to respond, that I'm just blowing off steam but I have nobody else to blow off steam to about certain things without violating HIPPA laws--which I just got a huge reminder of in a training. So sometimes he responds, sometimes he calls me, sometimes he just ignores the text because he knows I'm blowing off steam and he's busy with family or friends and doesn't want to bothered with my drama. One great thing is that we agreed today that we both like our job at the Lodge. One of the reasons we both like our jobs is that even though the guys are 18-20 years old, they all act like they're 4. It makes it so easy to connect with them sometimes.
