Nosathro -> UN wants Bush era documents. (3/4/2013 9:20:40 AM)

The UN is now asking for Bush era CIA document on the prisons they operated in foreign countries and waterboarding.

Who gives a fuck what the UN wants... Really?

Hillwilliam -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/4/2013 11:03:43 AM)

The UN is like a toothless dog on a leash.
Lotsa bark and drool but that's about it.

Like my uncle always says...it's good to want.

There's no way the U.S. turns over anything that has more information in it than they could have gotten out of the newspapers, though.

Is there any way one party would willingly release papers that could heavily harm the other party, though? I don't think that could be ruled out as a possibility.

What good would it do for a party to release what we already know to be true?

How is it gonna hurt the 'republicans' chances of fielding a president less than the zero that they already possess?

And what documents could the rank and file obtain that aint been in the newspapers?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/4/2013 2:09:35 PM)

When an outside source like the UN asks for US intelligence documents, my answer will almost likely be the same. Go fuck yourself.

As far as what we all know actually happened, it is pretty despicable.

I doubt it. Those papers wouldn't just make Bush and the U.S. look bad, they'd probably make a whole host of our allies look bad. Those prisons weren't located in Russia or Iran.

That will never happen. Remember that Obama will not be president in a few short years. The dems would not want the same thing happening to him.

There's that little thing about proof. You know, hard evidence and all?

He's not Bush. He's not doing anything wrong. [8|]

I wouldnt get your knickers in a twist chaps. Its a non-binding report and as such is....kinda non-binding.

farglebargle -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/5/2013 5:09:41 AM)

All the UN needs to do is break out their own transcripts of the lies they were told directly. All the evidence for the criminal case of fraud in violation of the laws of the United States is publicly available.

Yes, there is myriad hard evidence.

TricklessMagic -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/5/2013 7:03:27 AM)

Maybe the UN should declare war on the U.S. so we can just get this party started.

MrRodgers -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/5/2013 7:20:46 AM)

Unfortunately this has the smell of other UN members wanting to embarrass the US to distract the world from their own desire to use the UN as a means to obtain a codification of or to sanctify their own lies, belligerence and human rights violations,

This. For pity's sake... we have enough trouble with a federal government. The LAST thing we need is a global one.

All of which doesn't change the fact that American's as a whole support shit like "disappearances" & torture.

Just to let you know, the UN does not declare war, however the Security Counsel of which we are member can direct actions against the US. Also remember we are one of the founding members.

kdsub -> RE: UN wants Bush era documents. (3/5/2013 9:19:40 AM)

I think the US will no more give information to the UN than Russia...China...Iran...Korea or any other nation has in the past.

For myself, except for the hardening of resolve of our enemies, I could not care less about the information becoming public.

I have no beef with the actions of out government...I wish I could have poured the water myself.

Will not really true... We used to be able to say our treatment of prisoners was one of the things that separated us from our enemies. I’m afraid we reduced ourselves to their level and I am ashamed for it.

BUT… I do understand it and on an emotional level I find it hard to feel sorry for them.

Butch

And, when the Security Council is looking at sanctioning one of it's member countries, that member country is not included in the vote.

And, that we are the largest financial supporter of the UN.

And, it most likely would be difficult to get the UN to do much, as NATO is usually their main "warring" arm, which the US is also a founding member, biggest financier, etc.
