PeonForHer -> RE: Compliance - the Film (3/6/2013 3:48:25 PM)

I think TH is referring to Compliance, not Soylent Green, Harry. Soylent Green was a bloody excellent film and an utter classic, as pretty much everyone agrees. But, as for Compliance, OK - SPOILER: No, this is no 'meh' film, IMHO. One thing that's *really* thought-provoking about it, for me, is that it's not easy to pick out who is the real villain. Is it the phone-caller, or is it the victim's boss? To me: nup. It's neither. The real villain is a social attitude. Sounds poncy and pompous - but I can't think of a more accurate way of putting it. In the aftermath of the Milgram experiment, other students were tested. The results were far different. The original experiment had been well publicised; people had been shocked - and they'd learned from it. 70s hippie students weren't like their square 'n' straight counterparts of a couple of decades before. But this film shows that we need to keep re-learning the Milgram lesson: *Do Not Automatically Grovel To Authority*.
