Normally the only one who remembers my birthday is Master. My daughter rarely remembers until maybe two or more days later and text or FB me to wish me a belated birthday.

My mom doesn't even remember when I was born. There's 5 of us. I guess too many for her to remember lol. And my siblings are just too busy with their own lives.

My birthday was last month and Master took me out to a nice dinner where he likes to laugh at me when I have more than one drink.

I wasn't always like that. When I was a teenager I could outdrink anyone. I grew up with alcoholics and I was married to one. It was normal for me.

Then I hit 30 and it all went downhill from there lol. Most days I can barely tolerate even one drink but if we go out for a special occasion he allows me to have a few drinks but I rarely make it past half of the second drink before I'm too far gone. It's all part of his sadistic plan to laugh at me.

He's threatened to make me drink another but after he sees me with two, I think he knows I'd never make it to the third. haha

There was a time that I could drink half the night. Now, you'd have to wake me up. If I have more than one, it's alcohol, glass of water, alcohol, diet coke. I gotta have lots of time in between. <grin>

First of all, dear Lady, I am of the opinion it is incredibly unkind of you to have your username as NotSweet, as I just perved your profile, and must say, I think you are an absolutely terrific gal. If I was a guy, I'd be all over you like a duck on a Junebug. As it is, I wish you lived in my area, as I would extend a rare invitation for friendship, toute de suite!!

By Gawd, but you are rare and awesome woman! Smart, sensitive, fair, generous, natural, honest, alluring, grounded and sweet as the day is long.

So, that being said, I insist....no, I demand, that as a birthday gift to yourself (and society at large) you see yourself through my eyes and heart, which are as accurate and true as they come. YOU are KEEPER, extraordinaire!

Happy Birthday, precious one, and open up your beautiful heart to your good self.

I turn 40 this coming weekend, given its such a big occasion I've planned a year of celebrations and landmarks, beginning lightly this weekend with a meal with my sons, then a party, the following weekend is another big double party. I then go to Amsterdam for a weekend in March, followed in may with a Dublin weekend, June/July/August is festival season so it will be download and Leeds music festival weekends, Then if I'm still alive and financially soluble I'm hoping to squeeze a trip to New Zealand in before xmas to scratch something off my bucket list.

It may seem excessive but I figure hey, I'm only gonna be 40 once right!!

This will be the first "major" birthday I've actually celebrated fully, I was serving in the armed forces during the first gulf war when I turned 18 and for my 21st I was in hospital in traction, my 30th passed me by as I was busy with kids/career and everything that entails so I'm gonna make up for it this year.

OP, and everyone else for that matter, I'll raise a glass to you all :-)

I stopped haivng the ability to drink so much when I got pregnant with my eldest.
Never did like beer, but spirits yeah I could handle it well.
Now two wine gums and a glass of lemonade and Im giggly as a loon.
I had a nickname for a while(before the lucylastic one) of "martini" based on a tv advert..anytime, any place, anyone.
And "One drink, I can feel it, two drinks you can feel it, three drinks anyone can feel it...."
Times they have a changed.
PS Tender...my 40th was incredible I think I celebrated for a week!!!! 51st is gonna be so much quieter.

My 46th birthday is in June and I share it with my daughter's boyfriend. He is cool to hang around with. I think he is turning 21 this year so I have to really treat him to a margarita if his mom allows me to take him to Baby A's (great Mexican food, bar limit is 2 margaritas).

My plan for this year is to take it easy, go to Baby A's if possible and if not, have Bo grill up some ribeyes and have a couple of fuzzy navels.

Ya know, I can't figure that out either, for myself as well as you. I've gotta figure we're just too much horse for the common fellow! By all means, make the most out of the note, and if someone needs a reference on ya, send 'em my way!

BTW, I'm hoping you meant, "....all over me like a Duck on a Junebug." If you've ever had a Junebug on your it's creepy. They have prickly little thingies on their legs/feet, so it's hard to extract them from your skin or clothing. Just plain creepy! And at nightime if your're near an outside light souce, they'll try to get to that light source, but their navigational tools suck bigtime. They'll be hitting you in the face, and all over the place. Once again, very creepy!

If a birthday is supposed to be "your day," then my advice is to make sure it is.

I completely agree. Whatever that means to each person.

I guess I don't really have any feeling about my birthday either way. I've never done anything big for my birthday.

I was a little disappointed because, in the past, my mother and my sister and I have gotten together for "milestone" birthdays. For my mother's 70th, we spent the day at a salon together in Connecticut. For my sister's 50th, we went into NYC to see a Broadway play. My 40th came and went this year, and they seemed to have suddenly forgotten that's what we do.

But as far as turning a year older, that doesn't really faze me. I guess my feelings about a birthday are more favorable than not. It's a good reason for cake. (But really...who needs a reason?)

Are Junebugs the same as "lovebugs?" Because those are dreadful, but not nearly as bad as stinkbugs.

I always hated Junebugs...clinging to the screen of the doors because they are attracted to any light source.
