ORIGINAL: Fightdirecto Republicans pandering to Hispanics? quote:
An advocate for official English in the United States says GOP Senator Marco Rubio's Spanish and English response to the president's State of the Union address pandered to Hispanic-Americans... Mauro Mujica is chairman of U.S. English, an action group on the issue of making English the official language of the United States... "It's all part of a pandering to Hispanics, because for some stupid reason, the GOP decided that the Hispanics don't speak any English, when most Hispanics who are here legally speak very good English," Mujica comments. "The Hispanics who really do not speak good English are the illegals who don't vote anyway." Moreover, he deems it is outrageous that the party is only pandering to Hispanics. "What about the Chinese, or the people who speak other languages? I don't think [Republicans are] going to get anymore Hispanic votes because they're translating, and, by the way, insulting those Hispanics like myself who speak good English," the English advocate submits. "Why does he need to translate for me?" Pandering - or just good politics? Yes. Anymore, good politics includes pandering. (Insert politician's name here) is going after the (insert name of group) vote! Hilary Clinton and Obama have been accused of altering their speech deliveries according to the group they are talking to. While that's not a surprise, neither is it disingenuous. It is simply the way it is. I would not be surprised if the choice of Rubio and his dual-language delivery wasn't planned.
