"The Hispanics who really do not speak good English are the illegals who don't vote anyway." Moreover, he deems it is outrageous that the party is only pandering to Hispanics. "Why does he need to translate for me?" Pandering - or just good politics?

(Insert politician's name here) is going after the (insert name of group) vote! Hilary Clinton and Obama have been accused of altering their speech deliveries according to the group they are talking to. While that's not a surprise, neither is it disingenuous. It is simply the way it is. I would not be surprised if the choice of Rubio and his dual-language delivery wasn't planned.

While I don't completely agree with RacerJim, he is partially right. But, he is ignoring that the GOP does it just as much as the Democrats.

Please. Isn't this what politicians, worldwide do? At `17% Latinos make up a larger percentage of your population then black men and women do (~9%); Irish (~10%); Germans (`16%); English (~8%); never mind the lesser ethnic percentages. It is surprising you complain about it, since any politician worth the name would be derelict if he did not do such "pandering." I think your complaint is motivated by the fact your GOP is doing a better work of it then you party is. I recall your partisans here pulled sockpuppets out of their closets when I stated that in general the average Latino immigrant to your country along with those in your country since even before you took it from the English, was far more socially conservative and family oriented then they thought, and only the racism displayed by a wide segment of the GOP towards Latino immigrants keep the GOP from making even greater inroads into the Latino vote. Of course they were telling me there was no cultural difference between a Puerto Rican, Haitian or Cuban and a mestizo from Latin America, so this shows the ignorance the"left" in the United States operates under. Your Democrats will learn this the hard way, if they continue in their ways. It appears your GOP has started up the learning curve.

The private sector has been publishing English and Spanish text for decades. It's nothing more than an acknowledgement that there are a lot of consumers that prefer to read Spanish. For that matter, Pope John Paul II led Mass in several languages to send a very clear message that different cultures were welcome within his Church. The GOP is doing nothing new by following that lead.

If Republicans want to be successful in the future, they have to expand their base outside of middle-aged/elderly white straight Christians, who are making up a smaller and smaller portion of the public. But that means more than just having a politician give a speech in Spanish. And I think that seriously engaging with the interests of a diverse population will alienate some of their existing base. So I guess that's a hard choice they'll have to make.

This is nothing new. George Bush was doing it as governor of Texas and ever since. At one time, it was so obvious, the liberal press paid a lot of ink on the topic.
