ORIGINAL: lovmuffin In an earlier war Fonda would have been convicted as a traitor. And so would Sorebutt McCain. They both made propaganda broadcasts for the enemy after all. McCain was avoiding getting his OTHER arm broken in a POW camp. Again, big difference. Yes, a very big difference, as Sorebutt was actually a serving member of his country's military rather than a civilian, and so should be held to a higher standard than Hanoi Jane. I think the "helicopter rides" McCain endured is all the justification he NEEDS. Jane was a spoiled rich kid thumbing her nose at Dad. Torture in service of your country can be forgiven far more easily to me. On the other hand, McCain practically had to get his arm broken again to say that the US's "enhanced interrogation techniques" were torture. To me, that is far less forgivable, especially in light of his own torture.
