I've seen some intriguing things people have been into... for instance, body lacing (lacing ribbon through embedded metal clasps in the skin.) I wonder how this is handled in emergency situations such as heart attacks or in surgeries. In an emergency situation, they dont go into an all out effort to remove finger rings, ear rings or any other body jewelry. Any damage that is caused can be fixed later as opposed to taking the time out to remove those before restarting your heart. They do prefer to remove. Of all else fails, they will simply cut the jewelry, if they are able. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1343405/ This is an article from 1999 about the removal of body piercings. Something like an eternity collar can be cut. Vaginal or penis piercings have become quite common... around 30% are typically seen in the ER at some point. In a small hospital, it may cause some concern. In a larger area, they have pretty much seen it all. Chances are, a few of the nurses, if not the Doctors, have piercings themselves and know how to remove them. http://www.acep.org/MobileArticle.aspx?id=82882&coll_id=720&parentid=740 Seems to be quite common in their education. I went with the heart attack angle since most have discussed someone being able to remove them on their own.
