it was at the hospital, but there was no sedation, just quite a nicely sized camera tube pump thingie (which i'm sure is the correct medical term lol)

It's rather funny for me to read about all the explanations given when going to the hospital to have anal insertions removed... especially when that never even crossed my mind when asking my question in the first place! LMAO

Well I was told about a guy with a wooden drum stick shoved up his penis...but I still don't know if I believe that one

p.s, the colonoscopy was pretty nice too ;-)

Trust me, you wouldn't be saying it was pretty nice if you'd have one with no sedation.

It would totally not be pretty nice. I had one with insufficient sedation and it was miserable!!! The pain from being blown up with that gas/air was totally miserable!!!

Sorry but, I don't think he had one, actually.

From the sounds of it, he is describing a colonic and not a colonoscopy.

I think he may have confused the names.

Notsweet -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/7/2013 8:48:05 PM)

My dr. put me in twilight sleep for both of my colonoscopies, and I never felt a thing. Wish they would do that for mammograms. Ow, dammit!

EsotericLady -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/7/2013 9:21:15 PM)

Don't get me started on mammograms! oh, nooooooo

I've always wanted a FEMALE doctor to do my hernia test ... but to no avail.

Yikes, don't even get me started with mammograms. I call them slammamamms! Oouch!

DesFIP -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/8/2013 7:49:15 PM)

I have to insist they lighten up on the sedation during the colonoscopy or I'd be there all day trying to wake up. I'm still not sure how I got dressed to come home. I remember lying there and then being home. Someone must have gotten the clothes on me.

I've seen some intriguing things people have been into... for instance, body lacing (lacing ribbon through embedded metal clasps in the skin.) I wonder how this is handled in emergency situations such as heart attacks or in surgeries.

In an emergency situation, they dont go into an all out effort to remove finger rings, ear rings or any other body jewelry. Any damage that is caused can be fixed later as opposed to taking the time out to remove those before restarting your heart.

They do prefer to remove. Of all else fails, they will simply cut the jewelry, if they are able.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1343405/

This is an article from 1999 about the removal of body piercings. Something like an eternity collar can be cut. Vaginal or penis piercings have become quite common... around 30% are typically seen in the ER at some point. In a small hospital, it may cause some concern. In a larger area, they have pretty much seen it all. Chances are, a few of the nurses, if not the Doctors, have piercings themselves and know how to remove them.

http://www.acep.org/MobileArticle.aspx?id=82882&coll_id=720&parentid=740

Seems to be quite common in their education.

I went with the heart attack angle since most have discussed someone being able to remove them on their own.

AllisonWilder -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/8/2013 9:43:08 PM)

Yep, you'd be surprised what medical professionals see on a regular basis. I've never worked in a hospital, but I've been working in a nursing home since 2009 that offers long-term care and some short term rehabilitation stays. Even on some of the older residents there (55+), you'll see some piercings, etc. I've yet to see someone come in with body modification-esque things like lacing and I've yet to see anyone wearing a collar, but I'd be willing to guess that it's only a matter of time before I do.

When I started training in 2005ish, I'd have been genuinely surprised to see someone that was older with even a tattoo. I actually think it's kind of neat when I see it, times are changing and all that.

Colonoscopies are not performed in doctor's offices. They are usually done on an outpatient basis in a hospital or outpatient facility, and normally under some form of sedation. Trust me, you wouldn't be saying it was pretty nice if you'd have one with no sedation.

medical staff are usualy very nice in most circumstances, i've recently noticed my medical fetish incresing and i had to go to the docs for a colonoscopy, the nurse left the room telling me to losse my trousers and i started getting hard straight away, ass soon as i was on the table with a thin piece of material over my groin i was rock hard, the nurse was fantastic about it, she could tell i was a little embarrised and managed to not notice it :-)

p.s, the colonoscopy was pretty nice too ;-)

I agree. Not sure what happens outside of the UK but here any colonoscopy is performed in a hospital with sedation.
The drug used here is similar to the date rape drug as they need you to be able to respond to their requests to turn over or move during the test. The drug then enables you to forget the experience.

I remember going into the anti room to wait for my test and hearing a terrible noise from the theatre. I asked the nurse if they were doing the test on a child and she said no it was a grown man!! In no way ever could a colonoscopy be described as pleasant or nice.

Doing testicular exams the same way would suddenly overnight produce more comfortable exams. Here let me slam your junk between 2 plates. Ow? Oh let me tighten this is should cut off ALL the blood removing the pain.

EsotericLady -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/10/2013 8:29:29 AM)

I've more than once thought the same thing, Rose...and the best way to explain to a man what it's like.

Interestingly enough, do any of you know that having an ultrasound which causes little to no pain, is actually a much BETTER way of finding unusual growths/tumors, etc.? Except THOSE are never suggested to women? It's always a mammogram.

I have had lumps most of my reproductive life & have experienced a mamogram ONCE every other time it was ultrasound & needle biopsies...gotta love PCOS

littlewonder -> RE: Managing visits to Medical Facilities (2/10/2013 10:42:51 AM)

I had both a mammogram and an ultrasound because I have scarring from my reduction and I have fibroids. I had a biopsy done once and that was two years ago when Master found a lump in my breast. Turned out to be nothing though thankfully. They said it most likely was just old scar tissue that I had probably damaged in someway...exercise, eeerr...rough play possibly. [X(]

Thankfully though my insurance pays for both the mammogram and ultrasound. Some insurances won't yet cover ultrasounds and that's why doctors don't suggest it much unless there is more reason to do so. Ultrasounds, according to a lot of insurance companies, are not the normal procedures yet, just like a lot would not accept chiropractors for years until it became common practice and studies were done to show it wasn't "excessive" and unwarranted procedures.

A similar question was asked at a munch that I attended. A few people knew the kink friendly doctors and surgeon in the area. Within a few minutes, we had a nice list of possible professionals if we saw the need. The kink practicing surgeon has presented at our meetings and if called by one of the group leaders, will respond himself. I later heard, he had been called when a sub was really ruffed up by someone in a hotel room. The sub called a member who ran it up the flagpole. She received the aid she needed without 20 questions.
