I haven't gotten it. If I did, I would report it as spam, then block and delete.

I imagine this comes from the typical, evangelical christian belief that the only way a person can possibly not believe in their Invisible Man In The Sky and his Mystical Jewish Zombie Son, is if he is totally unaware of the myth. The idea that somebody, such as myself, can have had it preached at him literally thousands of times and still not believe it is completely alien to them. Thus, they feel compelled to reach out to the Heathen on sites like this in order to Save our Soles... er souls.

You forgot "kink is unnatural & we are all going to hell"

Oh. That's the problem?

The whole "you do not accept my fantasy superfriend and are therefore, according to my own lore, going to be tortured for all eternity," thing...that's not the problem?

Did that stop being a core Christian tenet at some point? Is this a recent development?

Odd, though, about that whole torture-forever thing...maybe god is a top?

I'm just curious, if any of you have received this message.

God loves you and Jesus died for you God bless you and your family amen.

Just curious ...

Nope, but I must say it's a vast improvement over some of the crap I have been recieving lately.

Let me guess, emails from people in some african or former soviet republic needing money to get back to the states and promising to be your eternal slave?

Of course I got a message accusing me of being "one of those" people in reference to my love of dogs as pets and companions, now if I could just figure out who "those people" are.

LadyPact:

Sorry about that, I edited the post and removed the name.

I know to remove and block, there is another reason I asked if anyone received it.

Thanks guys.

Miss Diana
Thank you for doing the edit.

I haven't received one like that for some time but I've gotten similar stuff in the past. Since I did see the name of the sender before the edit, I think that would have bothered Me more than the message itself.

THIS.
The nick bothered me way more than the actual message and I enjoy race play.

LadyPact and lilsquaw, indeed. The name, by God, that name...

littlewonder -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/5/2013 8:34:27 AM)

I have in the past and I wrote back and thanked the person. I'm a Christian so I really have no problem with it.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/5/2013 10:21:48 AM)

Are we talking email message on CM or some ethereal spiritual message like have I "received" this message from God?

Nope, haven't gotten any email like that.

Yes, fanatics and bums with beggars cups tell me God loves me and/or Jesus died for me and/or God bless me and my family.

No, I have never "received" any spiritual message from any deities and there isn't room to let Jesus into my heart because it's crowded with all the wonderful people already in there.

Yea, those and ones like the guy who just wrote me and asked if he could pay me to put cigarettes out on him.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is.
Don't answer it, delete it , and move on. Pretty simple to me. : )

I have yet to see Christians on this site hurling insults at atheists beliefs, or even telling them they are going to be "tortured for all eternity."

Certainly, there are Christians that are basically zealots trying to convert the world. The majority of Christians, however, don't care if you are going to burn in hell for your beliefs, nor do we care to change your beliefs. It is the atheists, as you have just shown that feel this need to insult. You seem to have some need to feel superior for your beliefs. That's fine.

For the record, the majority of faith based religions believe those who don't share their particular belief aren't getting "in." I personally don't agree with that, although I do believe I have no need to worry about the future of those who need to make themselves feel better about their beliefs by insulting the beliefs of others.

cordeliasub -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/5/2013 4:34:16 PM)

I haven't gotten that one....although just a few minutes ago when I logged in I had a one word message from some nice chap. It said:

fat

I'm pretty sure Jesus doesn't love HIM [:D]

You know, it's really kind of funny. Normally, I don't discuss religious beliefs, or my lack of them, because I've found it's pointless. And in fact, since there is no place on this planet where the vast majority of the population are not believers in some religion or other, if I had to choose which believers to I was going to live amongst, I would choose the christians. They are, after all, for the most part a little more tolerant than say, the taliban.

While it's true as you say that ON THIS SITE, it's rare that evangelical christians try to shove their beliefs down my throat (although the very existence of this thread shows that it does happen), in this country, it happens all the time. In the forty years since I became a non-believer, it's been a rare day that someone hasn't tried it. And are you really trying to say that no christians make fun of others beliefs, or lack of them, that christians don't "have some need to feel superior for their beliefs?" The general theme of nearly every religious group I've ever encountered is, "We're better than everybody else because we, and only we, have the "One True Faith."

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

LafayetteLady -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/5/2013 5:25:23 PM)

Well, it is interesting to see that you felt no need to resort to insults this time.

The thing is that typically the people that behave the way you are saying (and believe me, I know quite a few), are, for lack of a better term, "the squeaky wheel." Those who you talk with everyday who have Christian, possibly even evangelical beliefs, who mention nothing....well, since they don't mention it, you don't notice it.

Look, I'm a born again Christian, and was, until very recently attending an evangelical church. Many of these people became much too zealous for my liking, and quite frankly, going against everything I believe was Jesus' message. I've heard the whole, "Halloween is the work of the enemy," "Satan is ruling the media," and my all time favorite was a pastor who still believes that the church should convert the entire town (honestly, that was the last straw for me). A woman that I am quite fond of from the church and I had a discussion about the "spreading the Gospel" mentality. I told her flat out, that God had not chosen that path for me, and I would not partake in such things.

I believe everyone is entitled to their beliefs and should be respected for them. I have no need to lecture you about having no faith and believing when you die, you will become worm food. And yes, all organized religion seems to think that each of their particular sects are the only ones who will be "let in." Personally, I think many (including you) will potentially be shocked to see people they never expected to see after they die.

Oh, and did you catch that? I don't believe you will necessarily burn in hell for eternity for not believing. I do, however, believe that potential rises when you spend time insulting other's beliefs. I'm kind of a "big picture" type, believing there are many factors involved, so there is no need to "convert" the world.

As for the message being something some Christian is trying to shove down someone else's throat...well, I think it is silly to send such messages to strangers, but I don't see it as shoving their faith down your throat. Wouldn't be just as easy to say, "thanks," or "nice to know," and drop it?

If that's the case, then on the one hand you are cold and callous, and on the other actually failing to perform core behaviors required by your own doctrine. Are you saying the majority of Christians are not good Christians? I think plenty of Christians would take exception with your characterization of them.

I am not sure how you do math. Are you talking about number of religions or number of adherents in religions?

Either way, you are very, very wrong.

Pretty much only Christers and Buddhists claim that their rigid practice and an oath of fealty to their method/magical being is the only means to attain the ideal; just about everyone else (including, of course, muslims, so known for their tolerance) thinks that there are multiple paths to salvation/deified existence/ideal state.

Marc2b -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/6/2013 6:40:34 AM)

No I have not received it. If I did, it wouldn't bother me much, though. I mean, compared to some of the loony Christians out there - like the one's who shoot abortion doctors or shout invective at the bereaved during funerals - it is rather tame.

I admit to being curious about that nic that everyone finds so disturbing, though.

leonine -> RE: Have any of you received this message? (2/6/2013 12:05:59 PM)

It reminded me of a cute fresh-faced American hitchhiker I picked up once on my way to a Pagan camp. After a while I could see he was trying to nerve himself up to something, and from his reaction when I mentioned where I was bound, and the fact that he looked far too innocent to be wanting to proposition me, I was ready for it when he blurted out "Do you know God loves you?"

So I said "I know mine does, because She told me so, but I don't know about yours." He was still trying to work that out when we got to his stop.

What doctrine would that be? You do realize that each group has their own and they don't all believe the same things right?
