I'd definitely check with another vet myself.

Now, here's one everyone has had before, I know. Big ol' fat boy is starting to pee in places he's not supposed to pee in. I can't put anything on the bathroom floor. He got the kitchen throw rug, and the latest was the floor end of a blanket. I've used bleach, lemon juice, lysol, febreze, baking soda, vinegar trying to take the mark away so he'll stop, all to no avail. He's a little bitchy lately because I'm feeding him just a little less, trying to get him to lose a llittle weight. He yells all the time, and I know he's mad at me, but the peeing has got to stop.

Any suggestions?

This exact thing happened with my adult 2 year old male cat last April. He and my other cat were being fed a vet recommended dry food at the time. His stools were suddenly full of mucous and some blood, they were loose. The vet wasn't exactly sure what was going on, but she put him on a diet of canned food instead and I got some probiotic tablets to mix in with his food that foster good intestinal bacteria.

He refused to have anything at all to do with the tablets so I gave up on them. His symptoms went away with the wet food diet although it was DIFFICULT to switch him over. He wanted nothing to do with it. At the time a month later, I was going away for a day and didn't want the wet food out getting spoiled so I gave him some dry instead...mistake. The bloody mucousy stool returned. One other time when I worried that he wasn't eating, i relented and let him have a dinner with a little dry food...again a mistake - the symptoms were back by morning with his next bowel movement. After that I just didn't give in, I'd let him go hungry if he didn't want to eat the canned food. I threw away a lot of canned food in the months that it took for him to give in and start eating the wet food as eagerly as he used to eat the dry.

It took a good 6 months of sticking to the canned food to have him fully accept it, but that's what we've done and the loose bloody stools have never returned. They stopped immediately with me not feeding him dry food anymore.

Excessive or "unusual location" urination in cats is very often a sign something is WRONG. *note: cats have an INCREDIBLE ability to hide pain, so you can't always go by whether they act "happy" or not (excessive purring is another sign that something is amiss)

Common causes of this symptom are:
1: Urinary tract infection
2: Bladder stones/urinary tract crystalization (VERY common in male cats), and caused by foods with high "ash" content (tuna is a big no-no for this reason)
--Take your cat to the vet and explain his change in urinary habits.

Thanks for all the help! You can always ask a kitty lover....

Yeah, fat boy is on his way to the vet tomorrow. There's been no other behavior change, which is what I was waiting for, but this looks llike a big red flag to me. He's neutered, and this isn't marking. As far as the litter boxes, I have two giant ones, and...I know this sounds a little compulsive, but the litter pans are in my bathroom, so everytime I go to the bathroom, I take a scoop from the litter boxes. Sounds neurotic, I know, but it keeps them clean!

Meanwhile, diabetes wouldn't surprise me, but I'm taking him in to get checked. Too scary not to.
Now, to find someone to help me wrestle him into the box. He KNOWS what that means.

~FRing it~

My cats didnt have the bowel issues that yours are having, but they did suffer from what I guess would be an upset tummy most times. Lots of cat vomit "art" on the carpet, etc, etc, etc. I started them on Innova and it put a stop to the vomiting. Additionally they seemed to shed less, the dandruff my black cat had went away, and their fur started looking really shiny and smooth. Mine have always been primarily dry fed with the occasional can of wet food as a treat. When I do buy them wet food, I go with the Innova or other high quality pet food.

On the Nature's Miracle, yes...Ive bought it at both Petsmart and Petco. And I second a check for diabetes or UTI/bladder infection.

You know what I want to know? They go to the vet every year on their birthday. Their birthday is in one month. I was excited because I had a few extra dollars this month. Do they do this on purpose? I know that he and his sister are plotting to kill me. I read the book, so I know.

I'm gonna fix his ass. While they've got him, I'm getting him a mani-pedi. That oughta teach him, lol...he HATES getting his nails trimmed.

Get the urinary tract infection & likely crystals in the urine fixed...this is the #1 reason male cats start peeing outside box. If not neutered can additionally be a territorial thing

There's an excellent book called The Natural Cat by Anitra Frazier. She talks about all sorts of cat issues and how to deal with them. You might find something in there.

To tell the truth, William has ALWAYS peed on the bathroom rug, so that wasn't much of a signal. It wasn't until Saturday evening that he did the kitchen rug or the blanket, so if he's got something, he's had it for at least a couple of days. He's definitely going to the vet. I just want to know how to keep him from returning to the scene of the crime once he gets checked out--I've heard that they'll return to any place that they've wet.

Mistress, bloody, mucousy feces is never normal, and is a symptom of inflammation. Sounds like your kittie's is rather chronic. Sometimes a body can get allergic/problematic reactions to any food fed long-term, esp. if it likes a food that's not good for it.

What tests, exactly, have been done on this fellow to prove it's "nothing to worry about?"

Were it my kitteh, I'd get his carcass to a GOOD holistic vet pronto. He might have a low key, long-term bacterial gut problem. Could probably benefit from good kitty probiotics, as well.

Before trying any herbs, make sure they're appropriate & don't interact badly w/any meds he's already on. Check w/your vet. My holistic vet is able to muscle test for what is or isn't good for a particular animal, at any given time. He's also skilled in Traditional Chinese Medicine, reads their pulses (which tells him much about the different organs and how well a system is or isn't functioning) and treats them with Chinese Herbs accordingly. Homeopathy might be another helpful modality.

If you need info on where/how to find a holistic vet in your area, and what modalities they practice, let me know.

Have you ever tried any of the freeze dried meat cat foods? I wonder if he might like that. Will he do raw meat?

This is where a black light comes in handy. Natures miracle used to have a kit with cat odor remover & a hand held battery light. Pee glows so you know where to treat, if it still glows it needs more treatment. If the suggestions given donwork contact a professional carpet cleaner, they have stronger commercial products. If it can get dead body smell out, it can get cat pee

LMAO, dead body smell. That might come in handy.
Got the Nature's Miracle, going to use it while William is at the vet. Figured he might as well get his whole physical. The appointment is for this evening, but he knows something's up. There's no carpet in the bathroom--he's stuck to peeing on tile, thank goodnes. But the tile...I know that he can smell what I can't, so I'm just scrubbing every surface and spraying the hell out of it.

William is fine! He's got a little bit of a UTI, but the vet says that we caught it so fast, he didn't even have a fever. He gave William a shot, a prescription for antibiotics, and a return appointment for three weeks from today, provided he doesn't have any problems. OTOH, now that William is home, Mary (his sister) is furious and keeps hissing and smacking at him. :)) It'll be her turn soon enough.

Thanks for all the advice!
Hoping that Boobie DarkArt is feeling better too!

Notsweet, check the dog department if you can't find it at Walmart in the kitty department. It will be there for sure. Unfortunately, most walmart's don't keep much beyond the food shelves stocked. It's labeled with a big pink "OUT" on the label. I've had great luck with it....KB is my sprayer, and he does it when he's pissed at me...no pun intended. I've caught him doing it and given him a bath with the squirt bottle, and he stands there defiantly until he's done, then simpley sits down and dares me to do something. He started doing this after I moved into a house that there were already cats in, so it started it out of the need to mark, but he continued even after we moved into places of our own where there are just his brothers and sister.

A second kitty box and get yourself one of those black lights they use to find the urine, then use a product for specifically dealing with pet accidents.
They have enzyme-type ingredients that will break the urine down.

The other things you are using don't do that.

Folks, thought I'd follow up on my OP. I started all 3 cats on Healthwise dry food. No more digestive problems for Boo, took care of Jazz's dandruff, and Yog's skin allergy. They love it and it's reasonably priced. I know I sound like a commercial, but so far this is really good stuff. If you have a Lemos near you, it's there and samples are available. Or you can order online through wag.com or petflow with free shipping over 49 dollars.
