Freaking Computer! - 1/31/2013 8:23:05 PM

Status: offline 		Ok, so I have the CCleaner, which is great and run Microsoft Security essentials. Keep both updated and scan regularly.

Currently I have this stupid thing in all my browsers, chrome, ie, firefox. It's "mystart.incredibar.com" and I'll be damned if I can get rid of the stupid thing. I've deleted it and/or blocked it in all my browsers, but I still can't get it to stop opening in additional browser tabs.

HELP!

Status: offline 		I ran malwarebytes (left that off the above list), and it came back saying it wasn't there. Let me go look at that youtube video.

I figure when I go to bed tonight I will run a full scan of the malwarebytes. Didn't do it now because normally it grabs most things on a quick scan and full takes more than an hour on my laptop to run.

Status: offline 		First, go to bleepingcomputers.com and head for the download tab. Type in rkill in the search, save the download and run. When it is finished turning off all the extra processes a notepad appears. NOW update malwarebytes again. Do a full system scan over night.
In the meantime go to your IE options and hit the advanced tab. The reset button is at the bottom of the options, click to reset. Click the general tab and change the homepage to anything else.

Status: offline 		Just to be clear, I have reset my home/startup pages in all my browsers, and went and removed the program. It is only popping up in additional tabs in my chrome, which makes me wonder where the motherfucker is hiding, damn it!

Ok, so I'm going to try your suggestion now. I've been searching all over the net and I've found tons that say they will remove it, I download and scan and then it tells me I have to register to have it fix the problems. Very annoying.

Status: offline 		Is Security Essentials the only antivirus you have? I run Avast as my primary (which is free ) and it has worked well for me. I just got Windows 7 but still use Avast.

Status: offline 		I've frequently found, with whatever antivirus, that the damned thing comes back after reboot. This, so I was told, is because System Restore has kept a copy of the virus and thinks it's an integral part of the operating system, so 'helpfully' replaces it after you've wiped it and rebooted. I've duly wiped the System Restore data files and rebooted, to find that the virus has indeed gone. But I don't like doing that, for obvious reasons.

First, I'd try:

Start - Control Panel - Settings - Internet Properties - under the 'General' tab, delete the mystart homepage if it's there.

regedit and search (it will show up repeatedly) and you have to delete them or provide other stuff for them like http://www.google.com or whatever the case may be for the registry entry.

Status: offline 		This particular varient of mystart is a bit more difficult to remove than prior versions.
It has to be removed in each browser.

In Chrome it is up at the top, settings then extensions. While there, clear your history. Close the tab on the side that has mystart still active. Check the regular settings and look for manage search engines, then put in what you need, removing anything else. Go to advanced settings, clear browsing data. Check your network proxy settings to see if you are being rerouted through mystart.

In Firefox go to add-ons, and check. Extensions and check. Plugins and check. Visit the content tab and look over your exceptions. Security and check your exceptions.

Things are much easier to do in IE. lol not so many hidden areas, one click to advanced and reset and ~voila~.

Status: offline 		Actually, I'm pretty sure I have it beat in firefox and ie. It's freaking chrome that is the problem. Ok, so I went through everything again, and I think I finally have it fixed! Yay me!

Status: offline 		In the event that it reappears after a restart (ugh!) try these steps.

On the chrome customize and control button, select extensions and look
for the annoying "magnifying glass" symbol, disable and delete.

Go to the start menu and click on Search.
In the search box, type in mystart
When you get results, simply right-click on them and delete them all.
You may have to refresh, for your own peace of mind to make sure they
have all been deleted.
Repeat, searching also for: incredibar, and perion

You may find a sub-folder named Perion in your program files directory,
which contains data.txt and newTab.crx. The newTab.crx is a
Google Chrome Browser Extension Archive file, and the data.txt file contains
a url pointing to mystart/incredibar. Delete this whole Perion sub-folder structure.

That was the sneaky little bastard that was hiding! Perion WAS in my program files and I deleted that little bastard. Felt like stepping on a bug and twisting your foot to make sure it was dead.

Status: offline 		Actually, I am not really a user of firefox. I started using chrome and firefox when ie kept telling me that I needed to install adobe flash when I already had it. lw and some others pointed out there was a recent problem on ie with that.

So now I have been using all three. I really don't want to use something I have to download add ons or anything for. I'm really the open and click type, who wants no fuss. I have decent virus protection, maleware protection and a registry cleaner. This is the first problem I have had in years.
