Just got a weird text telling me there was suspicious activity on my debit card and gave me a number to call. It looked odd, and I would never just call a number like that and give them my info, so I checked my account online. All looked fine. I googled the number and turns out there are complaints against that number. Its a scam trying to get your banking info. Luckily I didn't fall for it. Pays to be wary sometimes.......

I'd treat it the same way I treat emails with similar info (SCAM)

eerr...I would hope people are smart enough to know it's not their bank and if they are unsure, call your bank's number....not the number in the text. But if someone gets scammed by it, well....lesson learned imo.

My bank (Chase) does text about "suspicious" activity. They follow that up with a call.

I get text messages about direct deposits and suspicious activity.
Typically followed by a phone call within 24 hours.
It's actually how I have set up my account to notify me of things.

mine emails me or texts me so I know the number. If I don't, then I have the direct number to my bank and I just have them check it and verify. Then again, I'm the type that rarely answers her phone if it's not someone she knows. I usually let it go to voicemail and if none is left then I look up the number online to find out who it is.

No matter how they contact me, I don't reveal any bank/credit card info.
However they contact me, I ask what company they are, then hang up, dig the companies phone number up from my records and call them. That way I know I'm safe.
