Maybe this question gets asked a lot here, but how many profiles are actually real? Every time I read one, it seems like something out of a bad issue of hustler (or at least the bdsm version of it). I was on the site for a day and already got someone messaging me about how they want to chat on instant messenger (but in a way that seemed like a scam).

Greetings. Maybe you could try thinking about it another way. Q- How many people online are trying to make some cash versus how many people are online looking for a BDSMy partnership ? A- People wanting cash > People wanting BDSMy partnership This is going to be true where ever you go online.

How are you defining "real" or "fake"? Are you interchanging not real (fake) and not compatible to YOU? Are their obvious scams? Yes. Are their men pretending to be women? Yes. But for some reason I doubt that is what you are talking about.

@TheLilSquaw I mean fake in that the profile has been fabricated for ulterior motives. Maybe to make money or for other reasons than actually trying to find someone. @FelineFae I suppose you are right, I guess I was caught a bit off guard by how pervasive it seems to be on this site (at least from what I've seen in the first day).

That is a tough question because it is subjective. Some people are writing profiles and are VERY interested in finding someone BUT they have this idea that they need to "stand out" or "grab attention". They do themselves a disservice because many, like you, read it and think "can't be true". Unfortunately, many people are also NOT very good at writing and they come across poorly or they make the profile too short. There are a number of previous threads from people who want feedback on their profiles & many of us, especially the women, will tell the writer that we would not respond because it doesn't seem real. The flip side of that is that there ARE many scammers and wannabes and often they right the most sincere (although usually TOO perfect) profiles... They know how to play people & have a lot of experience knowing what to say, what keys to strike sympathy or get attention. The only thing I can say is, yes many are fake and yes many are real & you will sift threw a LOT of fill dirt before finding a tiny speck of gold.

@TheLilSquaw No I think you're still missing what I'm saying is that the profile has been made up, all the information isn't real and that whoever is behind it has some motive such as scamming for money or something else unknown, but their intention isn't what they say it is. I.e you could have someone pretending to be a 20 year old horny college student and they really are some guy trying to get something out of you.

Occasionally, when I have time, I'll check out the 20 most recent female profiles just to see what's there as far as people vs bots. Sometimes as few as 8 but sometimes as many as 15 of the newest 20 are profiles steering someone directly to a camsite or a "nigerian scammer" (note, they don't always refer to nigeria) or someone with "Slaves for sale" or 18 yo's looking for pay piggies. I think it's safe to say they aren't 'real' for the purposes of enriching and promoting discourse and education in the overall BDSM community. The proportion is frequently quite high

A person sits down, makes out a profile with a specific set of needs/wants in mind. They are trying to find someone..... their reasons for finding someone are different than yours... but they are still trying to find someone. This is the problem with labeling someone a "fake".

Your question is valid..... your terminology is off. Scammers might be a better word... Users, but that defines all of us as we are all users of this site. So, lets go with scammers. How many? Maybe 15%? Add 20% for the professional Dommes.... not to be mistaken with the financial Dommes, though many do cross over. Not to say these are scammers.... not by a long shot. Lately it seems the findomme group has grown by leaps and bounds... shall we place them around 30%? Keep in mind, many girls are also cam girls.... many Dommes also dabble in the financial aspect... and quite a few are devoted submissives to their owners, yet are financial "tops" (? is that a fair way to put that?, not sure... I need to think about that one)

I find that there are very few people trying to scam money on here. The Pros are obvious. What I find is that there is a HUGE contingent of guys pretending to be girls who have stolen some poor girl's pic and are whacking off to the responses they get. I get the impression that they get a rush out of manipulating the person they are talking to. 98% of the "women" I attempt to verify suddenly have no cell phone or no way to take a pic of themselves - so sad. And awwww can't talk on the phone cause they have company. Of course. . .

Welcome Dreadlocks.... yep lots of" fakes" lots of idiots and morons. same as any free "dating site, let alone BDSM sites. Im not looking for anyone, Im here for the forums and friends... just be careful, if it feels like a "scam or a fake" it may well be just that... use your personal discretion , dont give anyone any money who asks for it, n excercise, your gut instinct.
