It's probably best that I not get into offering theories on Ken's motivations in asking such a question, DesideriScuri, but since you've quoted him onto my screen, I might as well answer the question (something he was unable to do himself, during his brief Christmas parole).

While the, "race," box I now mark is "Native American," that isn't the defining characteristic of my life and values. I'm an individual. I'd honestly like to see that question, and the list of approved answers, eliminated from the forms and databases. I think it only serves to prolong racial divides, and enforce stereotyping. The subject of the Juan Williams piece, and the new Senator from South Carolina, are being placed into metaphorical chains, because of the color of their skin. I think that's a human issue, rather than a black one, and as a human, I don't like it, and believe it is well worth being exposed and discussed.

BBBTBW -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/22/2012 7:54:07 AM)

I, like Mr. Griffin walk to my own drum beat. I speak with an ounce of intelligence, I don't move my neck when I talk (unless I am joking around) I do the things I want to do because I enjoy them, not because I am trying to fit into some type of mold. I have been called "not black enough" because of my choices. I am a registered Independent although I voted Democrat this term because I felt they represented my interests better than anyone else. AND I am SICK and TIRED of being evaluated based upon my skin color. I am who I am regardless of anyone's assesment of me.

cloudboy -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/22/2012 4:48:34 PM)

One point recently raised in the NYT is that "token black" conservatives tend to come from White political districts or are catapulted ahead by the white establishment (Clarence Thomas.)

No black leader has ever stood at the forefront of the black community (by being elected from a black district -- or by having a large following) by maintaining a position that the wealthy should get all the breaks and the advantages b/c they are the job creators and have earned their positions through hard work.

Count for yourself. A mod note was added to each, so they are clustered, as they fall. I never looked to see the count when they shut down the Trayvon Martin spamming. It might have been more, that time.

I'm hoping we'll be able to get some of the specific sub-topics of the discussion going again soon. We'll see.

thishereboi -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/22/2012 7:08:08 PM)

That's just sad.

I want to know how far this will go. Do we start telling people from other countries "its not their concern" if they start threads about the US. And do we get told the same if we mention another part of the world? Racism hurts everyone, no matter where they are from or what color they are.

Start? When it comes to purely domestic policies and internal politics, I've been saying that for a while, Boi. Especially the ones that remind me of soccer fans.

Google Chris Rock 'keeping it real'.

Or Malcolm X "two types of Negro"

Im not certain I particularly want to either.

FR....

Being from Baltimore, I've hated loathed and despised the Washington Redskins for the better part of the last 27 years... (wait.... I just used Redskins in a sentence... I guess I will reprimanded by the Mod's now)

That said.... RG III and the return to the yellow pants has. dare I say, made me not hate them so much. Griffin's got game and presence on field and the NFL should use him as well as Andrew Luck to show future rookie players how to interact with the local media and the community at large.

Heck... I had no clue he was even a Conservative until last week!

Marini -> RE: Defining politics, based on race (12/22/2012 8:49:34 PM)

I am a Redskins fan, and I am also a big fan of Robert Griffin Junior III.

I am loath to commit on this topic, because when we acknowledge idiotic racist commentaries, it gives them credence and more publicity.

Robert Griffin Junior the III is possibly the best quarterback playing these days, and he is also well-spoken, educated and articulate.

I don't have to agree with your political point of view to like you AND all black people don't fit into one little box.

Rob Parker/Robert Griffin Junior III

The future looks bright for Robert Griffin Junior!
I look forward to watching him on the field, and in his endeavors off the field.

RG3 you rock!!

Hate the 'Skins (solely as a fan of one of their rivals), but RGIII has game, has presence, and is humble beyond belief (at least in interviews). He is well spoken and isn't arrogant about his fantastic ability.

It pains me so very much to like the QB of the 'Skins as much as I do RGIII.

Take a deep breath and come on over, and join the RG3 fan club.
[:D]

It only hurts the first time, really!

I'm not going to comment on the link,I am up north with friends and family for a quick Christmas together and don't care to read the link or the first 3 pages of the thread.
Being a sports fan and a voracious consumer of sport commentary I am familiar with the attention grabbing sound bites that precipitated the column .
But the RG III "possibly the best quarterback playing these days" thing just can't be allowed to fly.
He's having a hell of a year,he's taken the NFL by storm,he has made my N.Y>Giant defense look silly,
but he's not playing the best quarterback in the NFL these days.
That work is still being done by passers,
Guys like Rodgers,Brees Payton and Brady
Guys with rings.

RGR is #1!!!
Stop drinking haterade!
The rings WILL come {HE IS ONLY 22 years old}, and maybe a future in politics. {on topic mods!}[;)]

Not hating at all,as a matter of fact I am trying to watch as much of this as I can....cause with his style of play, you don't want to miss anything.
The NFL is such a cruel sport and his type of talent means he will expose himself often,in the NFL long is not long
And R.G won't be around long, even by NFL standards.
Nowhere near as long as an NFL franchise expects a franchise qb to be.

I laugh at your pathetic, inexplicable rivalry which is pathetic compared to the genuine and heartfelt rivalry between the noble Broncos and unspeakably evil Raiders.

The two of them are the public face of media-magnet high draft pick rookies. Russell Wilson, on the other hand, is their equal for play but doesn't seem to get the same attention.

Griffin's freakish. He's somehow revitalized a bad team. Luck is this year's pale imitation of last year's Tebow, without the Christianity. He's not really playing that well, but he's managing to squeeze out good play when it matters.

Heck... I had no clue he was even a Conservative until last week!

He isn't, not in public at least. He's talking pains to be a nonpolarizing figure in a hyperpolarized place. Good for him.

In private, he might well be. He's a military brat, with both parents in the service. He'd share very little background with most of the other blacks on his team.

I already said I like him. I'm not going to say I like like him. [:D]

That's about as much of a fan of his I'll be of any 'Skins QB. That stated, I still think you should have stayed with whoever you had the last few years.

I didn't know or care what his politics were. I still don't care. He's a hell of a FB player and seems to be one hell of a nice gentleman.

Who gives a flying shit what color he is or what his politics are?

(Skins still SUCK tho) I don't pull for any Philly team in anything but I still hope the Iggles stomp a mudhole in their ass today.
