Their partners were affluent and they were buying my art and hanging round my grubby studio. Yeah, I can see they were projecting a romanticism onto the situation. That being said, none had any intention of leaving their partners, they just wanted a bit of excitment and attention.

The studies I've read say 75% of married men have cheated, while only 50% of women. However this is a huge increase over 50 years ago when most women did not work and therefore did not form friendships with men. All it really says is that nowadays an unhappy woman has more chances to meet someone and therefore temporarily assuage her unhappiness. It says nothing about alpha, beta or omega. Now primate studies, especially chimpanzee and bonono show beta males get a lot more sex. The alpha is too busy fighting off challenges to spend his time engaging in sex.

And the book Sperm Wars, says that genetically women are programmed to seek out the highest level partner to father their offspring (hence have sexual desires towards) because it raises the offspring's chances of social survival. It's a really interesting book.

It's a really interesting book. Genetically programmed is an oft used phrase used by people who don't know what they are talking about. The latest evidence is, people aren't hardwired and genes are switched on and off by environmental reasons. If women were evolved to desire alpha males, they would have been historically programmed to desire something which would be very different from today. What made a good hunter, provider and protecter a few thousand years ago is different to the Alpha male of today which would be a financier or banker or some such. What was found in some research is that females would choose alpha males but were quite happy to let so called lesser males in their bed at opportune moments. One can speculate what these lesser males had to offer. Evolution isn't just the survival of the fittest, it is also the survival of the wiliest and the opportunistic etc.
