Any surprises here?  Wonder what the IQ is for a Mail reader?

How many years have I said "Pander to the lower than average 50% and you're golden"?

QueenRah -> RE: Even conservatives are saying it. (12/10/2012 12:09:03 PM)

"The study did not conclude if Fox News contributed to lowering IQ or if it attracts less intelligent humans." Therein lies the conundrum.

Unfortunately, I believe this may be a hoax. A dead-on hoax. But, a hoax, nonetheless. [:(]

Before everybody starts stroking their egos, look at what SNOPES has to say on the matter.

Ron Ron Ron

"One test involved showing subjects a series of images and measuring their vitals, namely pulse rate and blood pressure. The self-identified conservatives' vitals increased over 35% when shown complex or shocking images. The image that caused the most stress was a poorly edited picture of President Obama standing next to a "ghostly" image of a child holding a tarantula."

Oh yea...good science...anyone could figure intelligence from this type of test.

Myself I would like to see the IQ of the idiots that thought up this dumb assed story.

Why would anyone decide to try and make this test?…Ya think they could be politically biased. ..Oh I’m sure not…of course they are independent scientists just trying to prove their theory that Republicans are monkeys brains….I mean I mean…a totally unbiased scientific study that is of upmost importance in today’s world.

There is an Intelligence Institute... not sure how hard snopes looked.

http://www.intelligence-institute.com/index.html

Having said that...

That’s because the spokesman for the study, someone who goes by the “name” of “P. Nichols,” didn’t have compelling answers about its legitimacy. When discussing that topic by phone moments ago with the Erik Wemple Blogger, he noted, “We did not submit it for peer review with the APA.” What’s the “APA?” I asked. “I think it’s the American Psychiatric or Psychological Association,” he said. Pressed further about what sort of association would peer-review such a study, Nichols came up empty. “Off the top of my head right now, I don’t know,” he said.

As the Huffington Post notes, this bit of non-research managed to score a spot on PRWeb as well as some links on a few Web sites. Nothing major, though.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2012/12/10/alleged-study-on-fox-news-withers-under-scrutiny/

Continuing...

PRWEB.com is a service that blasts out press releases for pay. That gives the news blurb some credibility. The problem is, the press release is not detectable doing a search of PRweb.

And

There are a number of problems with this. The phone number is one used for spam.
The link to email information does not at all make it clear what information is being requested. Searching PRWEB.com does not find the text used in the article.
Searching three sites that use intelligence institute in their domain name does not find any page with the words Fox News.

The link to more info does not provide more info on the study. I show a link to a huffingtonpost article that reported that fox news viewers are the least informed.

So, the reports of the stupidity of Fox News viewers are a hoax. That doesn't make the claims of the hoax wrong, just the proof is not there as reported.

Bottom-line, it was tempting to run the story as others reported it. It's not as much fun to be a downer, reporting that it's wrong. But hopefully, doing the extra work WILL make a difference to our readers when it comes to trusting Opednews as a source of news that actually can be trusted.

Just goes to show that even the most trusted media sources can screw up.

My dog has an IQ of 30 and watching Fox News has not increased its IQ, probably lowered it in my estimate.

So, we are in agreement, those that watch Breitbart, Boortz, WND DailyCaller and FAUX NUZE are stupid.

Liberal fun as they say.

Oh, I don't know, in terms of the real world, it ain't too hard to see that the teabaggers and neo-cons are riding the short bus, and window licking thru life.

The short bus, driven by liberal progressives.

mnottertail -> RE: Even conservatives are saying it. (12/11/2012 6:39:31 AM)

Well, then there is only one driver who knows where to go, the rest are sitting there slobbering (not uncommon for the inept teabaggers down there in the house).

So, with the majority of the house all teabagger, Pelosi is still running their stupid fuckin asses ragged, hah?

Owner59 -> RE: Even conservatives are saying it. (12/11/2012 6:45:26 AM)

No one ever said that cons couldn`t have an alternate reality......

They just shouldn`t get so pissy when we disabuse them of their ignorance...

Eventually tho....the cons will see that dumbing down the debate and news doesn`t work for them as well reality and accurate reporting.

Considering the fact that 1 in 6 Ohio republican voters think Mitt deserves credit for killing bin-laden.....we know foxnews is doing real damage.

But tricking the dumber among us will only get you so far....you win only so many elections/political fights.

The best antidote for fox is sunlight and the truth and a debate.
