I'm thinking time for regular (like bi-weekly) kink friendly therapist. Is nice to have safety net therapist friend...but you know as well as I people are more likely to share with therapist on standing appointment. Do they have such as thing as in-patient treatment there? A hard week or two to get her past the boulders & learn some 4 wheeling skills?

she and I are discussing her going to the ER right now (4.30am here). She rang a crisis line earlier which was a big step for her. Hopefullly they will admit her to give her some much needed time out.

Please send prayers, healing, strength, hugs and anything else you can to her

In US if therapist calls ER for "patient in crisis" they get met at the door & taken straight to psych admitting. Anything like that there?

ssris, antidepressants, and benzos! skip the therapist! go to the shrink! thats my motto. no need to talk. -ex future psychologist lol

What can I say? I enjoyed my experimentation. I think Ill go see the shrink again once next semester start again. It was the first good semester I had academic wise since my 2nd year. [4 long ass semesters later] I actually didnt even have to talk to the shrink. He just asked what the problem is. He basically took my word for everything and I had my prescriptions within minutes. He wanted me to see a therapist, but I didnt wanna!

Think you should read the entire thread before giving that advice. OP in question with party sized bottles of pills likely would be no more.

aaannnyyway.....I hope Hazel gets the help she needs. She will be in my prayers. I've had to do the same thing with my daughter a few years ago. It's not something easy to do but in the end it will help her to figure out how to cope with the stresses instead of relying on alcohol and drugs. Hopefully she will finally come to a place of serenity.

Good luck op!

Exacty! Its not people in therapy that scare me, as much as the psycho whack jobs trying to convince me how "normal" they are!!

SSRIs are antidepressants. Personally, I dislike benzos a lot, atypical antipsychotics give better relief with less undesirable side effects.

Medication is essential to lift the suicidal ideation but therapy is equally important. You can accomplish a lot more work in therapy while taking medication because the symptoms are lifted allowing you to work on problems.

Hopefully Hazel is safely in the hospital now and will not be released until after she's stable. My thoughts and wishes go with her.

I am hoping that you were joking about being a future psychologist (speaking as a current one). It rarely is an either/or situation and most of the best outcomes with clients I have seen have been when the psychiatrist and psychologist and the client talk openly together to ensure that everyone has the same goals and are working together.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. The OP is in hospital and I and another friend are in contact with her, he goes and visits and when I am back I will be able to visit and give her a big hug. This was a huge and very scary step for her, one that many people don't take so I am incredibly proud of her.

It means a lot to me that people care.

thank you

and yep Des, benzo's are rarely prescribed and haven't been for years (at least in Australia) so I found that advice quite unusual. Interestingly, one of the rare times they are used is with the treatment of PTSD to bring down the levels of hyper-vigilance and hyper-arousal to a manageable level otherwise the counselling is not able to progress.

I actually argued with my psychiatrist against taking them, due to the myriad of problems they can cause, however after doing some reading and realising that my counseling sessions were not helping because I was so jumpy and anxious and having a joint session with both the psychologist and psychiatrist, I finally relented and started taking them and the change is amazing. Without them I wouldn't be doing the little bit of driving that I am doing but I am very conscious of how many I take and have never taken the maximum dose he has recommended.

Thanks again everyone, the OP is a personal friend of mine and I do appreciate your good thoughts xx

Throw in a grope and tell her it's from me.
