Hi all, and as the title says does a sadist need to inflict physical pain to merit the 'title' of sadist?

I ask because I recently received a message (very nice message btw) questioning my use of the word in my ID on here, and he told me that in his opinion a sadist needs to inflict physical pain for sexual release.

I disagree with that. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy inflicting physical pain on a 'victim' lol, but it is not needed for me to get my 'jollies' and the mental and emotional sadism is what makes it much deeper for me.

Just curious on the general consensus really, so feel free to reply as you choose :)

The psychological definition of "sadist" is someone that inflicts pain to receive sexual gratification whether the pain is consensual or not.

But, the psychological world also accepts that everyone has varying degrees of sadism within them. It's what causes us to look at people getting tickets on the side of the road.

I'll go the other way.

I'm a sadist. I enjoy hurting people. Sexual gratification doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with it for Me. The pain that I want to inflict for fun can be physical, mental, or emotional. I don't fit the moniker of 'fluffy' sadist because the person receiving the pain doesn't have to enjoy it. They just have to consent. I haven't really described Myself as a sensual sadist for a few years now because I'm more about inflicting pain than more pleasant sensations.

Basically, if I were you, I'd use the word as you understand the definition. Not everybody gets sexually excited by every casual S/m scene that they are involved in or by every type of casual play. I just tell folks that I hurt other people for fun and they are generally good with that.

Everyones different, I'm sure there are degrees of
sadisim aswell as more than a few types.

I would consider myself close to the vanilla side of
the sadistic scale and more into emotional stuff.
So I can have relatively normal relationships if I
want. But I'm sure there are some people who
couldn't climax without doing some crazy shit as
well.

I wish the term "shades of grey" wasn't ruined,
It would probably be a good description.

Why not just put in your profile that you enjoy inflicting emotional and mental pain and not physical pain? Just do what you want in the end though.

My very first sadist I ever knowingly met hurt me the most by not hurting me.

Master's cock definitely gets harder the more pain He inflicts. But He can still get hard from fluffy romantic sex too.

I like hurting women in the following order
1-Physically
2-Mentally
-Big big gap-
3-emotionally.

Numbers 1&2 really rock my world, three not so much. I love making her scream, adore mind games and heavy duty fucking with her head, but I don't get off much at all out of mangling her emotions.
