Second amendment purists insist it gives each of us the right to bare arms

The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with baring arms. Everyone has the right to bare arms...even felons, mentally incompetent people and non-citizens. Just wear a short sleeve shirt...or no shirt at all.
As for BEARING arms, that is a Constitutional right of every American citizen(less the aforementioned felons and mentally incompetent). Although it's sad to say, that right has largely been stolen, in the last 50-60 years, from the American public.

edited to add: So feel free to bare your arms, erieangel...and why stop there, why not bare it all?

60 years ago, I could(and did)take both rifles and shotguns to school with me(via the county school bus)without any repercussions. Today, a student would be arrested for having a weapon on campus...even locked in their vehicle. That's the loss of freedom we've had stolen from us.

I meant concealed carry permit.

How do you conceal a tank?
You'd need fucking big pockets in your coat...

Or a 4th Amendment, protecting the citizenry from unreasonable searches of their property, that hadn't been gutted and mutilated by 40 years of a, "war on drugs."

Moonhead -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/2/2012 11:02:48 AM)

Concelaed carry permits don't cover your property, just your person.

Rest assured, when these weapons are needed, they'll be available to those who are willing and able to use them. Willing being the key word.

Meaning that pussies who won't shut up with blather about the second amendment but have no interest in defending liberty in case it inconveniences them should shut up whining about this one?

Matter of interest, what about swords? Are there states in the US in which you can legally walk around with a claymore, for instance? Or even a samurai sword - whoa!

slvemike4u -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/2/2012 11:51:35 AM)

Gun threads bring out some crazy assed notions don't they moon ?
On this one,on this page alone we have someone bitching that students can be arrested for bringing a weapon to class, correct me if I'm wrong here but that whole bring a weapon to school thing hasn't ended so well lately [8|]
I'm thinking of Columbine,I'm thinking of Virginia Tech....I'm thinking the aforementioned poster wasn't thinking all that much[&o]

After ending gun ownership to end crime, Austrailia discovered that wasnt enough, they banned swords, last I heard they were arguing over what length kitchen knives sbould be allowed.

You think its somehow conducive to overthrowing tyrants to have teenagers packing heat on campus?

Norway settled it by banning all blades. Used to be we could carry a 5 inch blade, then it was 3 inches, then 2 inches, then nothing with an edge or looking like it might take an edge. People routinely get police visits for practicing with wooden swords in their own gardens, now. Carpenters and the like may get off with a fine at first offense, assuming it's obvious they forgot the Stanley in their belts during lunch break (to or from work would be no joy).

Hasn't had any impact on knife related violence at all, though it has created more criminals.

All that over a typo?

This is a message board, not English class.

I did and will continue to make mistakes as I have mild dyslexia.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/2/2012 6:05:03 PM)

Yes, just as you can in many other countries... If you are taking them to a class, to sell, etc.

In general, carrying an edged weapon for other purposes falls under a whole range of local laws and ordinances.
There is a popular notion that it is legal to conceal a small knife of 3 to 4 inches in blade length, although there are exceptions to even that. In the state of Arkansas, that clause was removed from the state code, making it de facto illegal to carry any blade 'hid'... unless on 'a journey'... a term which has no set definition.

Oh, and BTW, 'whoa!' is a myth... ;-}

jlf1961 -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/2/2012 6:20:48 PM)

The theory on why you cant own an operational tank or armed armored vehicle unless you are a registered military museum, is the amount of damage you could possibly inflict with the main weapon.

However, IF you can afford one, you can legally own a mini-gun. That is a 7.62 caliber weapon firing 6000 rounds a minute. Mounted on a military surplus Hummer, that still has the armor plates from its combat days, would be a formidable item.

A mini-gun, for the record, costs about $400,000.00.

By the way, a minigun can fire enough rounds to punch through a cinderblock wall quite easily.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/3/2012 8:26:34 AM)

Most people who own tanks do not have live cannons. Its expensive, a pia, and no,place to shoot them.

Concrete block walls can be chewed up by most guns. Its why its used as a drmo for people who know nothing about guns.

9/11 cost less than $400,000.

Modern hi powered military assault weapons are less deadly than 98% of deer rifles, cant shoot as far and are vastly less accurate. Hunting rifles and shotguns are far more leathal weapons than most military stuff.

As people have pointed out, banning guns is dealing with a symptom. You can still get drugs and weapons in,jail. You want,to fix crime, less kids and better socioeconomic conditions is far more effective.

Thaz -> RE: Unrealistic ATF and Firearms restrictions in the US (12/3/2012 8:42:24 AM)
