defiantbadgirl -> need advice on tablet/laptop combo (11/30/2012 8:49:28 AM)

I'm thinking about buying a twist screen tablet/laptop combo with a touchscreen. The Staples where I live has the Lenovo Twist, but I'm not comfortable with the non-removable battery. Every laptop I've ever had occasionally froze up where I had to remove and reinstall the battery. Lenovo has a similar machine called the Lenovo ThinkPad X230t. It does have a removable battery plus a dvd drive. What it doesn't have is Windows 8, which is supposed to be made for touchscreens. Does anyone know if the Lenovo ThinkPad X230t is any good? Are there other tablet/laptop combos that are better?

have you gone and taken it for a test drive or finger touch if it has the capability

Unfortunately, none of the stores in my town have it. They only have one brand, the Lenovo Twist, which I don't want because of the non-removable battery.

Which iPad should I buy? - Fri. Nov. 30, 2012

this is from a lady who is very much in the know about computers and such

For some reason, the link isn't working. I definitely don't want an ipad tablet. An employee at Staples told me tablets aren't like a computer that anything can be downloaded to.

I don't have a thinkpad or a twist laptop but I do own a Lenovo laptop. It's the best computer I have ever owned. I never ever have battery problems and the battery lasts for 5-6 hours.

I would say Lenovos are excellent laptops. Test it at the store and see if you like the feel of it. You could always check their return policy and if you don't like it, you could return it.

I would see if an upgrade is available for maybe a little more for Windows 8.

Wait.

I just spent an hour in a bar with the dude that is the 3rd down from the whole "Surface" thing as to Msft.

He said he's giving up (tossing all his apps) his iPad in mid January (they all got new surface devices 2 weeks ago) because in mid January Msft is coming out with some kind of new "Surface"/iPad thingie that makes everything else look like dust.

Natch, he's a Msft guy but he LOOOOOOVEs his ipad....and he says he's going to ditch his iPad, iPod and laptop because of this thing.

I don't know enough about computers to say one way or another but....a Msft guy who's loving his iPad and giving up same....to me....says a lot.

I told him I was thinking about getting an iPad for all my guys...he said "wait until early February....there won't be a choice, at any price".

And apparently (and he looooooves his iPhone) he's tossing Apple because apparently....the new Msft smart phone is....the thing.

I've known this guy for about 3 years (he's been with Msft for 17 years)...he says this thing is "the shit".

I don't know.

Just know what he told me.

(Something tells me he has a clue).

hhhmmm....or it could be him trying to push the product.

Best thing to do is research...read, try out products at stores, talk to computer experts.

Sorry I am gonna have to go with Windows 7, M$ Says they playing to support it till 2020. I figure by then they will realize that windows 8 was a dud and will have moved on to a real OS

I would tend to go with the company that pioneered the genre, Fujitsu.
You may not be familiar with the name but you have used their products as they have over an 80% market share of making the systems for ATM machines.

I used Fujitsu laptops for over a decade then made the mistake of being talked into getting a HP Envy when I replaced my work laptop this last time. The HP works great, for a while. Anything graphics intensive overheats the graphics card and the unit shuts down on high temperature. I'll never buy another.

I have a twist screen combo computer sitting beside me right now.. a Fujitsu. It was a workhorse 8 years ago but is not used to run GPS software in the vehicle and as a book reader.

As to what OS, look at what you want to do. If it is real time data intensive you want to use Linux and forget all the fancy gradeaux in MS Windows.
I'd stick with Windows 7 even though it has been covered in so much eye candy you can't find what you are trying to find.

But...there's no more win7 phone so....don't you have to go with a win8 computer if you want to be compatible?

I read a review of the Surface today and it was a real stinker.

ShaharThorne -> RE: need advice on tablet/laptop combo (12/3/2012 6:23:52 PM)

I tried to give Lizard advice about a laptop, telling her to avoid Acer. I don't like a shrill voice telling me that she knows what to select.

I think she need to take voice lessons for her theatre class soon.
