An alternate suggestion would be along the lines of what I'm giving her this year - a chain saw on a stick, because I'm sick of risking my neck pruning her her backyard trees from a ladder, or by climbing and dangling 10 feet off the ground. I'll still do the work, mind you, but she'll have the right tool in the shed I built. [;)]

A great afternoon you planned with a nice lunch, some shopping, then ending with a pedicure might be priceless when you consider the amount of uninterrupted talk time you could have together.

Grandchildren....my mother loves her's and they bring nothing but smiles to her face when she spends time with them... They range in age from 26 oldest to the youngest who turns 3 next week... As a parent when my eldest son calls and asks what I want for a gift, I always say the same thing...just to see you and spend time together.......Don't have to do anything, can sit and talk, play cards, it does not really matter

Don't you have a kid about four or five years old? A handmade card from aforementioned kid would mean more to her than anything commercial.

What I always want (as a mother and grandmother) a relaxing, stress free, enjoyable time with my family. What I give that is ALWAYS a big hit. Photos.

This is the one time of year you can get revenge on your relatives! I would give my Mom something similar to the junk I got from her last year.

Most people don't want or need more stuff taking up space in their home. I try to stick with either non-tangible gifts or consumable things that are certain to get consumed.

I love the fruit, or flower of the month, gifts. Especially the fruit. The gift that gives, all year.
