Maybe he prefers the term "asset stripping" as he feels that "vulture capitalism" is a wicked lefty diss?

The common spin is 'restructuring' as in 'we are restructuring the debt to take out a whole lot of cash, creating yet more debt, but we don't really care, because we just took out a whole lot of cash.'

Which has the obvious predictable results to even the most casual of observers.

The issue that seemed to bother people about Romney's horse is that he took a tax deduction on it. Like Bruce Springsteen won't? We aren't really required to structure out affairs in the stupidest way possible so that we pay the most tax. Or maybe people just didn't like dressage, and show jumping is OK.
Fargle? Rafalca is an amazing horse. Your comment was one of the dumbest things I have heard you say.

Nothing wrong with owning a horse.

Nothing wrong with taking a deduction for one.

Nothing wrong with showing that horse.

Its a great honor to have your horse participate in the Olympics.

The 77,000 or so wasnt a tax credit... it wasnt even a tax write off that year. He was able to take only 50 dollars of that... but we dont know about subsequent years... we never will.

Forbes puts it so much better than I ever could...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack/2012/07/19/both-left-and-right-got-the-taxes-on-the-romneys-olympic-horse-wrong/

Considering 75% of the population makes less than the Romney's spent on his horse, coupled with the fact that his business was in the business of putting people out of work, it doesnt take much to realize how most people became upset.

As far as the difference between him and Bruce, I dont ever recall being forced to attend his concerts or listen to his music, dont ever recall my livelihood being at the mercy of Bruce's good graces, or being told by Bruce that I suck because I dont make as much as his horse costs because I am in the 47%.

Comparing the Romney horse with the Springsteen horse is like comparing apples to trout.

It wasn't really about the horse.

of course it wasnt about the horse! It was about bashing the guy about every single thing possible with whatever angle they could & twisting everything the guy said or did his entire life.. it was a total smear job.. Welcome to American politics.. lol Its the worst, most mind boggling, head shaking "reality" show going.. The only winners were the t-shirt sellers...

But that and what goes on in politics is why Americans dont have any truly good choices in the voting booth.. no one with any actual brains wants the job..

like I said, there were lots of reasons not to like Romney. The horse wasn't one of them. Nor was the tax deduction. It just goes to show how the American public only thinks superficially when it comes to candidates. It seems that many people, left and right, spend more time researching fantasy football teams than they do presidential candidates. I am certainly not complaining this year, though.
THe amusing thing about Springsteen is that Obama trotted him out during the campaign, I suppose to lend "man of the people" cred to the campaign. Funny.

Not so funny considering his background.

I can only speak for myself. Because Bruce isnt telling me how to live my life, nor is he in a position to force me to do so.

Isn't that funny .
We have someone trying to take the "left" to task for not castigating a private citizen for engaging in similar activities as the last failed Republican candidate
Could someone, anyone at all, please try to explain,or make the case for,why Springsteen(or any other private citizen) should be subject to the same scrutiny as a candidate for President ?

I don't think the OP rises to anything that could be called "hypocrisy".....but stupidity certainly comes to mind(the premise of the OP ,not the poster per se )

This is real simple,I don't care what the rich folks are doing...I do care what someone who wants to be my President is up to though.
Is that so strange,or hard to understand ?
Surely not everyone on the right can be as dense as the OP is coming off ?

I could get behind this if it meant that I could stop hearing about who is dating / marrying / breaking up with / divorcing / cheating on whomever!

Oh. . . and stop the stupid stories about favorite foods, pets, clothing, et cetera.

Can you act?  Can you sing?  Can you whatever?  Great!  Now shut the fisk up about the other!

I do sometimes wonder, though, if my tea party friends might be right when they blather on about the liberally biased media.

It's hard to answer that without knowing how your Tea Party friends define "the media." Are they including FOX News? Rush Limbaugh and the large world of conservative talk radio? Drudge Report and the right-wing blogosphere?

So, why was Romney pilloried for being out of touch, but Bruce is considered a man of the people?

I don't think it was just the horse. The car elevator, the infamous NYT op-ed about not bailing out Detroit, the comment about liking to fire people, the opacity about tax returns, and the point-blank declaration to rich donors that 47 percent of the electorate weren't worth even thinking about all played a role in making Romney seem a bit disconnected from the vast mass of us.

I don't know much about Springsteen, to be honest, but my (mis)understanding is that he came from modest roots and has sympathetically addressed the concerns of us common folk in his lyrics. I am old enough to remember that when Ronald Reagan tried to coopt Bruce for the 1984 campaign (GOP theme: It's mporning in America), the boss would have none of it. “It’s not morning in Pittsburg,” Springsteen said. “It’s not morning on 125th Street in New York. It’s, like, midnight, and there’s a bad moon risin'."

Romney earned all his money, too.

Sorry DS, this claim doesn't hold up to scrutiny:
"The FDIC agreed to accept nearly $5 million in cash to retire $15 million in Bain’s debt – an immediate government bailout of $10 million. All told, the FDIC estimated it would recoup just $14 million of the $30 million that Romney’s firm owed the government.
It was a raw deal – but Romney’s threat to loot his own firm had left the government with no other choice. If the FDIC had pushed Bain into bankruptcy, the records reveal, the agency would have recouped just $3.56 million from the firm
."

The full story of how Romney swindled the US taxpayer was first published in Rolling Stone : http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-federal-bailout-that-saved-mitt-romney-20120829

Romney's claim to have made all his millions on his own is pure mythology

Mormons have NEVER been known for their connection to objective reality. Given the insane things Romney BELIEVES in, I'm *SURE* in his own twisted, defective brain, he BELIEVES that he's an entrepreneur.

Just like he believes that Holocaust Victims need to be baptized into his crazy cult, so that they have the opportunity to go to his "REAL" heaven. Which, as I understand Mormon craziness, is on the planet Vulcan or Alderaan or something.

Oh, and Ancient Jews did NOT sail to America and bury golden plates of revelation in upstate New York. Just another crazy thing Romney believes.

And you (as you've made a point of mentioning more than once) believe that the psychopathic child we find depicted in the OT is "God", so posting this kind of attack says more about your own ingrained religious chauvinism than it does about the people you think you're ridiculing.
