Iamsemisweet -> Remember people going ape shit about Mitt Romney's horse? (11/23/2012 7:30:57 AM)

Don't get me wrong, I love Bruce Springsteen. I am even seeing him in concert next week. One of the things I admire about him is that, until this year, I never heard much about his kids. They weren't getting shuffled off to rehab at 12, nor did they feel the need to do some stupid reality show or any of the other dumb shit that celebrities' kids tend to do. I have even heard him say in concern that Patty wasn't playing with the band that night because she was home taking care of the kids. I liked that.
This year, though, one of his daughters was an alternate on the Olympic equestrian team. Apparently, her horse wasn't quite good enough to get her on the team. So, in preparation for the next Olympics, her parents bought her a new horse - Vinnie, the horse that won the gold medal in show jumping for the British team. The price wasn't disclosed, but was no doubt in the millions. Turns out that Bruce owns a horse farm. He probably even takes the allowable tax deductions for his horse business.
So, why was Romney pilloried for being out of touch, but Bruce is considered a man of the people? I swear, the hypocrisy of the left often rivals that of the right.

I can only speak for myself. Because Bruce isnt telling me how to live my life, nor is he in a position to force me to do so.

Because they're just as human, and just as able to be fucked up, and wrong. Neither side has a monopoly on it.

It is all about bias.

When somebody dislikes a particular person (for whatever reason), anything that person does can be twisted around to look bad. When somebody likes a particular person (for whatever reason), anything that person does can be twisted around to look good.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Remember people going ape shit about Mitt Romney's horse? (11/23/2012 7:45:04 AM)

There were plenty of reasons to dislike Romney, like, as you say, he wanted to tell people how to run their lives, and he had some fucked up ideas. Still the criticism about the horse was bullshit. And, it isn't as if Bruce is apolitical. The Obama campaign very obviously used his "common man" appeal to their advantage.
I know it is pretty pointless to continue to ponder the election and Romney is nothing but an also ran at this point I do sometimes wonder, though, if my tea party friends might be right when they blather on about the liberally biased media.

They are right, pretty much. But I think most non-Foxers try to be reasonably fair, except for MSNBC maybe

Personally, I dont think I addressed the horse itself. However, it did worry me after the way he treated his dog that he had a horse too.

As far as the horse issue, it wasnt so much that he had a horse, but at the message he was sending at the time.

I thought the horse thing was just as ridiculous as a whole ton of other things that got said. And yes, I agree, the left is just as prone to hypocrisy as the right.

For me personally, Romney portrayed an overall image of being a rich leech sucking off the lifeblood of the nation. Anyone who still believes in trickle down economics fits that category for me. The horse thing was simply icing on the cake.... stupid icing, I agree, but it did align well with pretty much every other single thing he said.

The PROBLEM is that Romney's horse SUCKED when it came time to execute and deliver.

Just like Mitt Romney did on election day.

Also: Born To Run is a bit of a classic. When Captain Magicpants writes something that good, maybe they'll cut him a bit more slack?

Did y'all know that Bruce uses a teleprompter in concert? True tale as I was sitting in a section behind him once.

Romney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlPQkd_AA6c
"Corporations are people, my friend."

Springsteen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZD4ezDbbu4
Born down in a dead man town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A...
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don't you understand

I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I'm a long gone daddy in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I'm a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.

He's getting on a bit now, so he probably has trouble remembering all that wordy nonsense on the first couple of albums.

It wasn't really about the horse.

Romney said some pretty damning things about the vast majority of the country.

His politics were shit.

He came off as nothing more than a rich guy who had always been rich, who had never known any kind of financial pain and who didn't care about those who live in nothing but financial hardship. Not only did he project an uncaring attitude, he seemed to be blaming the poor for their own poverty.

The horse was just a symbol of everything that made Romney a poor candidate for president.

QueenRah -> RE: Remember people going ape shit about Mitt Romney's horse? (11/23/2012 5:23:25 PM)

Because Bruce made his living, not by putting thousands of people out of work, but by earning it, of his own accord. And, he's not presuming to make policy by which all Americans must live.

This demonstrates the problem in this country right here:

Confusing what the media choose to go ape-shit over as something that actually concerns society.

I never even heard about either Romney's nor Springsteen's horses until this post.

The far larger problem from the standpoint of effective democracy is not 'hypocrisy' nearly as much as people so willingly getting so caught up in such false drama as this to begin with.

How can you people actually watch this crap? any of it?

Oh fuck me? Was Bruce running for Prez?

I totally missed that.

Romney earned all his money, too. He also donated quite a bit of money,to the point where his Governor's salary and his inheritance were donated, making all his wealth earned by him (not that Governor's don't earn their pay). You just don't like how he earned it. And, you are completely ignoring the purpose of venture capitalism, buying wholely into the caricature termed, vulture capitalism.

Let's give up on the inheritance donated chopped down the cherry tree asswipe finally.  His millions in trusts were way set up and in his pocket, and when his father died he got what relative pittance was left in the checkbook and gave that away.

Romney was NOT a venture capitalist, they CREATE businesses, he was in Private Equity, which buy older undervalued companies AND TEARS THEM APART FOR PRIFIT.

Try and keep up, will you?
