Just curious if anyone has read Stone's book. I think he's a talented film director, but I've also heard him referred to as a conspiracy nut, and a left wing version of Donald Trump.

I enjoy a lot of Stone's films, Level (Natural Born Killers is too much fun), but I ignore his politics.

I think of him more as a left wing version of Ann Coulter... minus the tits.

Coulter is so scrawny, Stone might have bigger knockers!

Level, I just read that review and its a rather bad hatchet job. I am not saying Stones book is good, never read it.

Many of the objections are more about his conclusions rather than his facts. Or they play fast and loose with timelines.

A big problem for me was the excerpt on the second page mocking a connection between bush and the nazis. Prescot bush was doing business with them. IBM even signed contracts with them during the wae.

Stones book may not be perfect but his view of our history has validity. We are not the angels many blindly think we are. Just as we are far more noble than some give us credit for.

Not sure the first is still true. What was the last film he did that was worth a shit?

Midnight Express, Scarface, Born on the 4th of July.

ETA I liked The Doors as well.

So nothing this side of the early '90s, never mind the turn of the millennium, then.

(And you're forgetting Conan The Barbarian, if you're going back that far, btw.)

Born on the 4th of July, Hill? Wow. I have that one solidly in his stinker column, but I agree about The Doors.

Moon, I went into Savages with expectations of a grand action flick, only to find smaller crime movie. In that aspect, I was disappointed. Taken for what it was though, it was pretty damn good, and a nice portrayal of a many faceted and complex issue.

Summer of 2012 recent enough for you?

Funny you should mention that one. When I was in grad school, the people in the weight room called me "Conan the Librarian"

Haven't seen that one.
To be honest, I lost interest after The (Shitawful) Wild Palms...

(Mind you, I quite enjoyed U Turn, which it seems no bastard else did...)

Okay, I see he did work on the Conan script.

Rich, I liked Born on the Fourth of July too, and The Doors.
