In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lest we forget.
11th hour of the 11th day of the 11month.
We will NEVER forget
TO all the People who have died, in the First World War, The second world war and all the conflicts since.
IN Remembrance

I am quite left wing, well very left actually, so while I may echo the anti-war sentiments I still have an unflinching support for the men and women of the armed forces and their bravery in the face of adversity.

Thanks to everyone currently serving in the military, and to our veterans for ensuring our freedom. Thinking of my 20 year old nephew KIA on 1/10/10 in Afghanistan. Wish he was still with us but he died doing what he loved. Thanks Jake <3

DaddySatyr -> RE: Thank you vets (11/11/2012 11:23:55 AM)

Not mine, obviously. I am not claiming to have written it but a big "huah" to all!

I am the Infantry.
I am my country's strength in war, her deterent in peace.
I am the heart of the fight, wherever, whenever.
I carry America's faith and honor against her enemies.
I am the Queen of Battle.

I am what my country expects me to be
the best trained soldier in the world.
In the race for victory,
I am swift,
determined,
and courageous,
armed with a fierce will to win.

Never will I fail my country's trust.
Always I fight on,
through the foe,
to the objective,
to triumph over all.
If necessary,
I fight to my death.

By my steadfast courage, I have won 200 years of freedom.

I yield not- to weakness,
to hunger,
to cowardice,
to fatigue,
to superior odds,
for I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight.

I forsake not-
my country,
my mission,
my comrades,
my sacred duty.

I am relentless.
I am always there, now and forever.

I AM THE INFANTRY!
FOLLOW ME!

Thank you to all who serve and have served.

Level,  Keep posting, it looks really silly to have an
ice cream cone next to your name, so get rid of it.

Good to see you again.

Lol I know, I've only got about 20,000 more to go to get back to where I was; thanks for the welcome back, my friend.

kitkat105 -> RE: Thank you vets (11/11/2012 1:44:26 PM)

All gave some and some gave all.

In Australia, we celebrated Remembrance day, which is similar in that it celebrates the end of world war 1 in 1918 - during the 11th hour, on the 11th day in the 11th month, but also marks as a day of remembering all those currently in active service and all those who've given their lives so we can live freely and safely.

"They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them. Lest we forget."

stellauk -> RE: Thank you vets (11/11/2012 2:27:33 PM)

In memory of all those who gave their lives for our freedom and liberty, whether military or civilian.

kalikshama -> RE: Thank you vets (11/11/2012 7:03:59 PM)

My minister started his sermon today by asking all of us vets to stand up and gave us a round of applause. He spoke about how when his brother was serving in Vietnam, his brother wrote and said he's serving to protect his (my minister's) right to be a conscientious objector. My minister went on to say that what he objected to was never people serving, but governmental policies.

dcnovice -> RE: Thank you vets (11/11/2012 7:10:50 PM)

To do those who served, thanks.

To those who gave "the last full measure of devotion," rest eternal and light perpetual.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Thank you vets (11/12/2012 3:53:33 AM)

Thank you from my brothers and me. I served over 20 years ago and my brothers retired (both on medical).

Lizard called and wished me a Happy Veterans day yesterday. That brought a tear to my eye.
