This used to happen alllll the time at Star Trek: The Experience, in Las Vegas.

I seem to recall footage of Klingon courtship in that movie, "Trekkies," too.

Actually, I think the correct term would be "Trekker." "Trekkies" are more like wannabes and dabblers, whereas the "Trekkers" are the truly serious fans.

I think these people are just Trekkies, though, since the article says they just saw clips of DS9 with Worf's and Dax's wedding ceremony. I guess they missed the later episodes when Worf and Dax were constantly ending up in the Infirmiry due to injuries incurred by their nighttime antics.

They could have had a Vulcan ceremony, in which there's a chance for combat using ancient Vulcan weapons.

I thought the correct term was "nerd"?

This reminds a bit of that story about Trekkies being banned from Renaissance Faires...

It's not me. It's just that the Prime Directive prevents me from interfering.

And you call yourself a Trekkie? When did Kirk ever give a hoot about the prime directive?

It was never going to be cool, ever. That's what makes Treking (Trekking?)
so great

You know what they say, "Once you go Bakula..."

[inre: Trekkie vs. Trekker - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trekkie

A quote from wikipedia: "Trekkie is "frequently depreciative"[40] and is thus "not an acceptable term to serious fans",[41] who prefer Trekker. The distinction existed as early as May 1970, when the editor of fanzine Deck 6 wrote:

...when I start acting like a bubble-headed trekkie (rather than a sober, dignified—albeit enthusiastic—trekker)."

I know how important this was. So, you're all welcome. :>

I am proud to be a Trekkie! (Trekker? That is not a word)

"Trekkie" was the term Mick Farren used for one of the first published write ups of the Star Trek cult (in the NME in 1972), so I really don't buy the argument that the term's abusive or dismissive. (Farren's an SF writer and a Trekkie himself, for heaven's sake.) I'm also dubious that the "trekker" term goes back as far as Wki claims, as all of the sources it cites for that claim are hard to locate to check, and the sort of fan massive production that's prone to retconning. All this talk about "trekker was the proper term back in 1970" is a bit akin to all of the Whovians who are now insisting that The Happiness Patrol is one of the best Who stories of the '80s and that they weren't whining about it all over the nerdsphere and bitching about how crap it was until it got claimed as a classic retroactively.
(There were similar initial responses to City Of Death and The Deadly Assassin back in the '70s, come to that...)

Well, there were quite a number of episodes where Kirk did give a hoot about the Prime Directive, except there were some cases which might be considered borderline. But in each of those cases, his reasoning was sound, especially in situations where he had to undo the damage caused by others who violated the Prime Directive ("Bread and Circuses," "Patterns of Force," "A Piece of the Action"). In other situations, he still tried to stay within the spirit of the Prime Directive, even if he didn't follow it strictly to the letter.
