Kat713 -> Journal Verification (10/19/2012 4:16:52 PM)

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I did try to search for it, but didn't find anything.

So lately whenever I go to post journal entries, I have to type in a verification string of letters. If I get it wrong, the journal entry is not saved and in fact just disappears so I have to write it all over again.

Why do I have to verify my own journal entries...? Even if there were bots writing "advertisements" into their journals, it would still only be on their profiles. You don't even have to do verification to write in the forums. I now have to select and copy my journal post when finished just in case I accidentally type the verifcation letters in wrong. Anyway, it's just kind of annoying.

Hi Kat. I haven't come across this in a very long time...until just recently. [:-]
I made a very teeny weeny change to my profile, and had to do the security letters as well.
Hopefully, someone more familiar with what's going on behind the scene will advise us.

I write daily in my journal and noticed it as well. I figured it was part of the overhaul that included the pop down.

It's happening to me too. I made a slight change to my profile narrative and it demanded verification to change it.

I often have nightmares about these crazy verifications on websites. In my dreams I just can't see them correctly and try umpteen times to interpret the numbers/letters without success. Hmmmm......

just for the record these verification systems don't stop bots from doing anything. i have them on a forum of mine along with email verification, they still get around them [8|]

i generally copy everything i write if it's more than a couple of lines because glitches in the system can stop it being posted anyway. some of these verification stystems are near impossible to get right sometimes though, so probably a good practice to get into by coping your work first.

I'm going to guess that maybe they had problems with advertisements? I dunno. I don't write in the journal much but when I do I've had the verification. It's a pain in the ass and probably another reason why I don't use the journal all that much.

It's a pain in the butt, I'd suggest drafting your journal pieces in a word document, so that way you have a backup. [:)]

MissToYouRedux -> RE: Journal Verification (10/20/2012 12:38:48 PM)

I would be happier if they just asked me to reenter my password to make sure the entry/change is what I want to do.

Got hit with that stupidity today. Annoying as hell, as those of us with limited vision that find the squiggly random crap a nightmare to actually read.
