We've all heard the old jokes about Chinese restaurants serving "things" they shouldn't but.....

Customers at the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg, Ky., alerted authorities after they spotted something they probably wish they hadn't: restaurant employees wheeling roadkill back to the kitchen.........Discover Yahoo! With Your Friends

Local CBS affiliate WYMT interviewed the witnesses. The roadkill was apparently a deer stuffed into a trash can. "There was actually a blood trail they were mopping up behind the garbage can," customer Katie Hopkins said. "There was like a tail, and like a foot and a leg sticking out of the garbage can, and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen."

Local health inspector Paul Lawson was called in to investigate. Lawson said the restaurant owners told him they didn't know they were doing anything wrong. "They said they didn't know they weren't allowed to do that. So that makes me concerned that maybe they could have before. They didn't admit to doing it before." The owner said he didn't plan to serve the deer to customers—instead he planned to use it to feed his family.

The restaurant has been temporarily shut down but will be eligible to reopen as soon as it passes another health inspection and proves it has been washed and sanitized.

We don't eat cat unless we absolutely have to. It's fussier than squirrel and less tasty ;p

Then again, I grew up where we ate groundhog, squirrels, deer, opposum, etc...

As for venison, here's a trick. It tends to be REALLY lean and it will dry out on the grill.

Put a layer of bacon on the grill and then toss the venison steaks/chops on top of the bacon. This keeps it from drying out when you grill it.

we used to broil it wrapped in tin foil with onions, potatos and garlic. LOW heat broill. took a lot longer than most meats... but YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I love game. Yes, squarril is yummy, but the Univ. of Kentucky found mad cow disease infecting local squirrels over a dozen years ago. Since that disease is carried on the nervous system, and the animals are too small to get them clean of all nervoius system, they are no longer considered safe to eat. Bambi and bunny rabbits, and other animals, are still fair game, though. and super yummy.

The big problem with squirrels and prion carried disease was the old timers who liked to eat the brains. yuk

I have zero problem with anyone eating whatever game they want. Unfortunately this guy should have paid more attention to the rules of processing meat and running a restaurant. He should have kept his road kill at home.

The problem is that he brought a wild, un-inspected animal into a kitchen which serves the public. It's against health codes and is considered unsanitary.

Greedy,here's my favorite way to cook venison.First soak the meat over night in buttermilk.Cut the meat[around 1 1/2 to 2 pounds] into small pieces, trimming off all fat and gristle and brown it good in a large skillet with butter.Once browned,add two packettes[one complete package] of Liptons receipe secrets onion soup mix and enough water to completely cover the meat and stir.Cover and simmer on low for at least 2 hours adding water if needed.Then add 1 bell pepper and 1 onion cut into small chunks and cook until they are the firmness you like.Serve over rice and add soy sauce if you like it.

Yeah,I know..a Chinese way but I don't scrape mine off the highway or pull it out of the grill of my ride.And everyone knows what they are eating before hand.

I have an old friend who is an avid hunter and yes, they will take fresh road kill deer home.

Some years ago, he showed up almost an hour late and his wife was furious. She had been trying to get a hold of him with no luck all that time. He said he stopped to field dress a freshly killed deer about a half mile from their house. Turns out she was the one who hit it, and had been calling fruitlessly to tell him about it so he could bring it home. Hundred pounds of meat, happy ending.
