I have observed a recent decline in more active members of the forums replying to threads started by newbies. Between basements and moderation commentary and what have you, the gap is being filled. I'm seeing newbies reply to newbies; and not only that, they are giving friendly, simple, polite and appropriate answers.

I think it's kinda cool. It's like watching a new generation flourishing. Just wanted to share.

Greetings,

I agree. It is a good trend. Thank you for that astute observation.

I wish you well,
Arturas

I never pay attention unless it's one of us...or unless it is interesting.

As far as I'm concerned, that's how it should be.

The novices should teach the new. The proficient should teach the novices. The experts should teach the proficient.

(Of course there are exceptions. I've done plenty of 101 classes in My day.)

It's when there is a break in that chain that things get disjointed, at times.

The drawback is, some folks talk more, give more advice, than they are qualified to give. I would give examples, but I don't want gold mail.

Damn shame, this leash about free thought.

I never pay attention if it's a newbie or oldie. I just pay attention to the post itself and not who wrote it.

No one taking the first steps should be giving how to advice to others taking their first steps. There in lies the problem.

Having done it in Simms, Second Life, or whatever role playing game is popular now, doesn't count as experience.

And some people we only pay attention to because they are good for laughs.

Greetings toysinbabeland,

I think that is so true. The post count is not a good indication of experience in BDSM and you know the old saying, and it is true, "those that cannot do, (spend hours online) teach(ing)" so the response trend where newbees who bring new experience and insight actively participate is very welcome as far as I am concerned and maybe they really believe these discussions should be two way streets and I agree. So start somewhere and give as well as receive and remember you are as good as anyone here and you count.

Well wishes,
Arturas

<soapbox>

In my old curmudgeon like opinion I think you have it all wrong.

There has always been a changing of the guard. A steady influx of newcomers replace those that fade away. But to me there is a difference between newcomers and a fucking shit load of tourists that suddenly gummed up the works. The mobs of horny housewife flooding any and all online BDSM websites after reading 50 Shades of Grey is polluting the scene like nothing that ever came before it.

I've been watching the threads and I disagree that the all these tourists are giving "friendly, simple, polite and appropriate answers". I think there is still exactly the same amount of crap and uninformed bullshit there always has been. The only difference is without the participation of the older experienced crowd, the newcomers have no way to gauge or judge the plethora of crap they are exposed to.

This is my busy season with work and I have been online less. However, I have been a lot less responsive to threads than normal because I read profiles before answering threads. I am not a fortune teller but there is a big difference between a tourist and a newcomer. The tourists won't be here for very long and it isn't my job to be their puppet on a string or their teacher on demand. They are passing through and hopefully will not leave a mark or break anything important during their stay.

On the other hand, the ever increasing TNG wave is sincere and I feel your observations and comments do apply to what is/was happening with them. That TNG crowd over the years has brought their new ideas and made their mark. They didn't give us "simple and appropriate answers". Nope, they were unusual and sometimes inappropriate with their answers and questions. They challenged a lot of our standards from their new perspectives. They redefined some of the things that make up the world of BDSM today. They came, they made their mark, they stayed, they are a part of the current BDSM spirit. They weren't tourists . . . and I did interact with them. I learned some and I taught some. It was a good exchange . . . unlike what is happening from the 50 Shades tidal wave of tourists.
