Ok. That doesn't mean that anyone who does find humor in it is some sort of awful monster, though.

I agree, there is humour to be found in many situations, and dark humour is often the best kind. THIS time... not so much.

tsatske -> RE: I think one of these guys has been posting here recently (9/28/2012 12:14:53 PM)

The thing is, I find lots of humor about my mental illness funny. but that wasn't humor. That was a serrious vid showing a clear picture of people suffering. It's like the difference between making a joke about war, or posting a video of solders being shot down and saying how funny it is. It isn't really all that funny to live inside your head thinking some of those things, being paranoid, or being unable to communicate what you need to say. You can make a joke about a stroke victim saying something that is differant than what they mean because of ephasia, and it might be a funny joke. But a medical text vid showing a stroke victim drooling on themselves and stumbling over their words till they cry in frustration is not as funny. There's the difference. Of course humor can be offensive, and should not be censored just for that reason. But this wasn't humor.

If you clicked on related videos, there were several of children suffering from this same disorder. Did you find those funny, too?

I agree %99. But I can just imagine a few years from now, "the doctor will see you now" and the the hair twirly guy who wanted to study to be a doctor walks in as your physician.

So, he's not allowed to recover and continue on with his life?

As long as ol' twirly stops playing with his hair, I am sure he'll do just fine and you can be his first patient OK?

Both my partner and I have had past mental health issues and have professional careers. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I would also like to add that an individual who has experienced mental illness before embarking on a career in medicine is far less likely to be quite so judgemental

I bet you don't twirl your hair like that do you?

I swear he was trying to unscrew the lid and I think you are too emotionally invested in your own insecurity about mental health to see the point and humor of what I posted. I was in the music industry through the 70s & 80s. I have seen crazy and functional up close and personal like no one else. So don't you dare wave that judgmental flag at me. It is your lack perspective that fails you to see the humor in my comments. I said nothing extraordinary . . . If some twirly-headed-screw-top turned up and said he was going to be your doctor, you are seriously trying to bullshit me into believing that you wouldn't have any apprehensions? So I am not being judgmental, you are being oversensitive and you are full of bullshit.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: I think one of these guys has been posting here recently (9/29/2012 2:34:26 PM)

I dunno RS. I adore ya even when you scare the hell out of me, and the post above mine made me wanna knock ya upside the head for being mean.

Course, you are a sadist so......

Seriously, Hibby said, "there is humour to be found in many situations, and dark humour is often the best kind. THIS time... not so much."

I said I agreed %99.9 but imagine the hair twirly guy as your physician [listing this as the exception].

Then pyscho-boy-slim called me judgmental . . . I call bullshit. If twirly top walked into your exam room, you should run for the fucking hills. And that mental image is funny, I don't care who you are.

littlewonder -> RE: I think one of these guys has been posting here recently (9/29/2012 9:37:06 PM)

Interesting article on doctors with mental illness.

It just made me sad, and glad that I have only had depression and anxiety to deal with.

Been there done that, burned the f'ing tee shirt. I too have great sympathy for those who are confronted with more difficult mental disorders and wish these folks the best.

I dunno, I think the image of me smacking you for being mean is pretty funny too! At least til the part where you grab me and take revenge.

I don't find this thread in the least funny and I hope the Mods see the logic in shutting it down.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: I think one of these guys has been posting here recently (9/30/2012 7:33:21 AM)

Personally, I don't think it should be shut down. I find many things funny that would freak out and appall others.

As long as I am free to say I don't find it funny, I can live with those who do find it funny expressing that also.

BBBTBW -> RE: I think one of these guys has been posting here recently (9/30/2012 7:46:50 AM)

There is a fine line between sanity and insanity, the flip of a mental switch so to speak. Those of you that find these people funny are very scary individuals. I can only pray that none of your switches get flipped. Nothing about that video was funny.

On the flip side of that, I work with individuals with Mental Illness specifically DID, Schizophrenia and BiPolar Disorder (some people have combinations of 2 or more) and I see the torture they go through on a daily basis, its heartwrenching. However, there are some occasions that if you don't laugh you will be continuously crying thus putting yourself in a debilitating mental state. My point in this is, laugh at the jokes, not at the person or the mental illness. Laugh when the person is laughing, not when they are suffering.

How does it violate TOS?

Out of curiosity, on what basis?

People didn't find it funny. Ok. That's fair. I kind of felt bad for the folks in the video, Myself. Was the thread in poor taste? To some folks, it was, but does that equate a TOS violation? Is there a section of the forum guidelines that applies?

Maybe a Mod can help out because I personally wouldn't know the violation that would cause the removal of the thread. Even if every Mod hated the idea that some people found it funny, they still have an obligation to remove things, not based on personal bias, but according to what's stipulated in the rules.

Hence why I'm not a Mod (and hence why I asked that they might see the logic).

if you don't know why you want it shut down why should the mods decide for you?

other than the distaste of the subject there is nothing wrong with the thread. therefore it should be left as is for others to post as they wish to.

On a personal note, and I promise that I an NOT trying to get this thread moved to P&R......

I recognize, at times, that I really don't like what some folks have to say. Westboro Baptist Church members come to mind. It's very rare for Me to hate, but in their case, I think I do. Some of what they have done and said make Me ashamed to call Myself Christian.

Still, I have to remember that every opinion that comes out of My mouth, I'm permitted to say because of the tenant of free speech. And, if I'm entitled to free speech, so is everybody else. Does it kind of make Me gag when I have no choice but to swallow My own personal thoughts of exactly what I'd like to do to those folks because they say what they say? Yes, but it doesn't change the truth on the matter as I see it.

We all have our own personal hot spots. I'm sorry that some folks weren't happy with this one. The thing is, we can't always just silence what we don't like.

And, for what it's worth, I hope you were not offended by what I have said here.
