Okay this is a completely random though I just had. Do you think a Professional Dominatrix would ever be able to compete in state, national, and international pageants and if such a woman did enter and made it very far would she get thrown out for having that job? Also how would you feel if such a thing were to occur? And should such a woman who despite this one issue is pretty much the embodiment of all the good qualities one looks for in a contestant be thrown out of the competition just for having a unique job from the others? Especially displaying the following attitude "Yeah well it's living and I'm not going to apologize for having a job"? Personally I feel that one's profession should have nothing to do with anything. I mean being a dominatrix is certainly not the worst job a woman could have besides in this economy the money probably wouldn't be half bad and since there is nothing illegal about the profession so as long as both parties don't cross any lines I see nothing wrong with it. Though we do live in a very hypocritical and self proclaimed "god fearing society" despite the oh so many serious issues with that(seriously I could make list of far worse things) besides I've seen fetish clothing a lot less skimpier than some of the swimsuits those women wear.

She would be disqualified if it came out, at least in Miss America. There is a clause in their contract about "recognizing and honoring the traits of honesty, good character, talent, poise, leadership, and good judgement..." and serving as a role model for teens with similar values. ETA: On the other hand, contestants are supposed to have a political platform, so if she could sell them on the idea of raising BDSM awareness as a worthy cause, but I'm thinking... not. Pam

There are competitions around the country, the world, and at kinky events already. Lots of dominants and submissives enter ones they are eligible for. If you are asking if an event like Miss America, etc should accept BDSM people as contestants, I think that if you hold a contest, with rules set in advance and you collect prizes to award your winners, then it is your right to determine who is or is not eligible. If in fact your concern is more about opening people's minds to the fact that alternate life style folks could be an asset to their event, I suggest that you check out and think about joining the National Coalition For Sexual Freedom. Volunteering to help them in their wonderful work can be a great experience!

Unfortunately, the contest runners don't follow the rules themselves. There was a beauty pagent last spring that had a lot of controversy surrounding the honesty issue. One of the contestants failed to disclose that they had been born male. Did the counselling, hormones, sex change operation, yada yada yada. It was one of Donald Trump's pagents and he ended up getting personally involved and allowed this person to compete. I don't have a problem with that. She didn't even come close to placing btw. My problem is with organizers who won't uphold their own rules because they are worried aboutthe backlash.

I'm betting that all of the (smart) pageants have a "good moral character" clause, along with a "the judges' decisions are final", so if the judges concluded that a Pro Domme failed the "good moral character" benchmark, in the opinion of the judges, they could throw her out. Most of these things are out and out commercial enterprises, so the organisers will be acting to protect their commercial interests. Interestingly, the one set of rules I could find see here (which is for "MRS Arizona")... http://arizonaunitedstatespageant.com/MRS_Rules_and_Regulation.html In this case the rules specifically state that you need to be a natural born woman. As to whether it would be fair or reasonable to exclude a pro domme from such an event. On one hand, fuck - people should be allowed to make their lifestyle choices and celebrate them. On the other... seeing the vitriol that surrounds Pro Domme discussions even on this board (which ought to be more broad minded than others!) I can imagine why a pageant organizer might be a little skeered of letting a latex clad pro domme rock her stuff at his (I'm assuming that pageant organisers are mostly dudes) pageant.

Vanessa Williams got tossed for having naked pictures. The bdsm element was just, IMHO, an added bonus. The photos were quite tastefully done, again IMO.

Pam It is my understanding that most, if not all, of the high profile pageants have some sort of "wholesomeness" clause, like the Miss America one above. I don't think we are at the stage yet where being a professional Dominant would qualify as meeting this type of standard. And, quite frankly, I'm not sure we ever will be (and one can ask, would we ever want it to be). Also, just want to add that part of this question, and the underlying discussion falls under the "how mainstream do we really want BDSM to be". My perspective comes from feeling like I would like BDSM to be legal (I don't feel people should face the risk of prosecution for engaging in consensual adult BDSM activity), but I could care less about whether it is "mainstream" or "acceptable" to the vast majority of the population.

You would most likely not be allowed to compete. The thing about the Miss America or Miss World pagaents, there is a moral clause that you must follow. There have those who have lost crowns for the simplest reasons and if I'm not mistaken I think a few years ago there was one who was disqualified for having made a sex tape about foot fetish.
