Was posting about condoms on another thread..and had to ask? Has anyone had their parents tell them something ludicrous, but you believed it for years? I did.

When I was 16, my father told me , "If you use condoms, just to make sure they're safe first...fill it with water before using it, throw it in the air...if it lands without breaking,...it's ok to use.." (This was my father trying to keep me from EVER having sex...lol....but worse..I BELIEVED him until I was 21 years old....roflmao!)

Dude, how much did they leave you under your pillow? Gosh, hope it was more than a quarter for all that teeth pulling!  LOL

I figured one gets a 2nd tooth anyway...no harm. well as years go by, and filling get bigger and bigger...all of this could have stalled some...

My dad once told me, when I was very young, that when you're driving and you come to the blinking yellow lights, you have to drive through it on the off-blink.  I believed that until I was fully sixteen and in drivers-ed.  Everytime he or my mom would drive through one of those lights and it would blink on I'd freak out and tell them they were going to get pulled over.

My parents said if I didn't stop I would go blind...

They also said to leave it alone, that it would grow

Then I concluded that if Santa Cluass, the easter bunny, and the tooth fairy are fake...that so is Jesus.

What other conclussion is there?

Wow, parental myths were so numerous, it's hard to select one in particular.

As a parent myself,  I've tried to limit my own perpetration of myths to the tooth fairy (who's name, by the way, was Dentina) and Santa.

I can't top the condom-balloons, nor could anyone else, I think.  Best I can do is say my parental-units really pushed the whole "be a good Catholic" thing while decidedly not practicing it themselves...

Perhaps I have issues?  Youbetcha!
