It was... Expected... Nothing new, nothing special, and about as bland as Ann Romney's.

Really? I didnt think either was bland. They were both well delivered and heartfelt. AR's was more important, because nobody knew her, and many only knew the Jon Stewart caricature of Mitt, and she succeeded in raising both of their profiles.

Ann didn't sell me on Mitt, while it may have been heartfelt, it fell flat for me.

But then I never did like Romney, and felt like he was thrust upon us by the MSM. It didn't hurt him that every one of his opponents fell flat on their faces trying to get their message out.

I found her speech well designed and informative. It was a tale of inspiration and hard work. What she related was much of what I've observed of President Obama over the last few years. The material I did not know about, seem to fit the character of the man pretty well to reasonly assume its accurant information.

To be fair, Mrs Romney's speech was fine, yet the essence of it, didnt seem to fit the character of the man I've known for years. I'm not going to accuse her of anything. Just that both of us can agree to disagree on the personality, philosophy, and outlook on the personna that is Mr. Romney.

I wonder how many conservatives could look at Mrs Obama's speech objectively and fairly? Oh right, none of them. As the evidence shows already on this thread alone!

I just did, and do you really believe that Michelle pulled in hundreds of millions viewers? I seriously doubt that claim.

Good speech, well delivered, swung 0 votes. It was government, government, government and that isnt the message the undecided are going to buy.

There are no "undecided" voters. That's just a scam the Media Companies use to fleece the money off their marks, the campaign ad buyers...

Deval Patrick was the "Speaker of the Night".... Felt bad for the Mayor of Baltimore who followed him.

Loved her sentiments, she gives good speech. Blew AR out of the water.
And the crowd LOVED her

When did the First Ladies/candidate wives start speaking at the conventions, anyone know??

Eleanor Roosevelt addressed the 1940 convention. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the first First Lady to address delegates, given that she broke ground in so many other ways too.

CNN has an overview of more recent convention speeches by First Ladies.

She was indeed the first First Lady to address a convention. Basically to quell a rebellion against FDR's choice for vice-president.

Wasn't he fantastic....my son sent me a text stating that the Dem first night kicked the Rep's first night to the curb.
I have to agree with that.Christy as a keynote speaker fell flat, seemed he forgot that there was an actual candidate for this year and spent most of his speech positioning himself for 2016. Our Keynote speaker electrified the audience,he is a coming star(nice touch being introduced by his twin brother..lol)
Patrick blew me away and than was followed by the First Lady who was simply fantastic.
Yep,if you are keeping score, and after all that's what we are doing here, the DNC won the first night....lol

The facts don't support Moochelles speech. As Breitbart points out, she went to elite schools all her life. She and The Bamster both went to ivy league schools. They both had good jobs coming out of university. Neither of them ever "struggled". They were, at best, a little inconvenienced from time to time. The parts of her speech that had any political significance were centered on a dependence to government.

Frankly, that mom-in-chief line kind of pissed me off though. In fairness, even if she was just trying to be cute and personable, using that sort of language simply re-enforced the over-all narcissistic theme of the Obummer camp that we need to have an Obama in government involve themselves in every aspect of our lives.

Anything Breitbart would point out would have little fact to commend it.

She did note that most of her tuition was paid for by grants, scholarships, and her own loans. It doesn't matter what school you attend if the vast majority of it was paid for that way.

She simply reinforced that the small amount that wasn't covered by those was handled by her father. She didn't really get into post school life all that much unless I totally missed it.
And Ivy league grads tend to get good jobs. Even in this day and age there are some schools that just bump you up in the resume pile.

As for your issue with the mom in chief line? it's a cute catch phrase. I'm sure it was put in just to be quotable. But I find you saying THEY need to be in every aspect of our lives funny. It's not the Democratic candidates that are looking to legislate who can and cannot be married, nor are they the ones trying to tell half the population what they can or cannot do with their bodies. I'd say pot meet kettle, but that would be assuming they are equal in scope.

She even stated in her speech (which is, of course, not the party line, just her vision of it) that they see government involvement as a supportive and encouraging force, not a dictatorial one.

Except of course that their schools and jobs since graduation are public knowledge. Anyone can Google their public bios and figure out that Obummer and Moochelle have led a fairly privileged life.

Even you...

She was talking about their formative years.

Did you hear the part where she said in Barack's car (when they were dating) she could watch the pavement go by? They make no pretense that they haven't done well.

It's fairly obvious they have done well for themselves since then.
That part is rather common sense... As H5 mentioned, her speech as about growing up till around when they were still dating. Not after they had become established. It's not like he was campaigning in a beat up old VW van and living in a single room apartment while on the campaign trail.

That they have done well doesn't preclude that they grew up with much less.

Don't know about that, even you could google and know that she and he grew up in lower middle class, and after graduation from uni, became lawyers and rose to the upper middle class, maybe beyond, who knows exactly where the line is.

But again, Breitbart lies, and the intended smear is lacking everything except stupidity.

We had a much bigger problem with Hillary Clinton. Visiting foreign countries, pledging US TAXPAYER DOLLARS in foreign aid!
If they're not holding public office they shouldn't be speaking.
I couldn't care less what Ann Romney has to say either.
We need to put up a bunch of signs in Washington like stop signs only saying "STFU"

I don't agree AT ALL. The party conventions are for all members of the party to share their views about the platform and the politicuians they endorse/oppose. That is the long standing tradition.
However if in fact that is your view, you must've been very much upset by all those former athletes, businessmen/women, and Ryan's and Romney's wives up there speaking to their party. I feel bad that long standing traditions ruined your convention experience.
