Status: offline 		I have a question about the Terms of Service.

In the TOS, (and not the "TOU" as some people seem to want to refer to it as), it says the members "may not include any personally-identifying information such as phone numbers, street addresses, Web site addresses, email addresses, Instant Messenger screen names, or any other information that if provided may be used to circumvent the Website's communication capabilities."

My question: Are links to the member's Amazon wish list a violation of the particular part of the TOS quoted below? I see a lot of people who have this on their profile.

Status: offline 		I can't answer your specific question about Amazon wish lists and that part of the TOS, but in the Report User menu, there is an option that seems to answer you. Sounds like it's not a problem to have the link, but to have it and then vanish after someone has purchased items:

Scam #9 - Requests for "tribute"

This scam is typically perpetrated by persons (male or female) claiming to be dominant women. Commonly, the scammer will claim that they are inundated with messages and that you need to send them a "tribute" (money) to prove your sincerity before they will speak with you further. Typically, but not always, they will request that you send the money via an Amazon Gift Certificate. Not uncommonly, once the money is received, the scammer will stop responding to messages or delete their account. So, before sending anyone 'tribute', remember that your only reward may be a lower bank balance.

Just my two cents.

The context seems to be specific to the sites communication capabilities. To me that means more along the line of selling products or services for things like keylogging (for example to get into Owner/Mod accounts and ban everyone, remove all the threads.. things like that) or other forms of hacking software that would disrupt the sites ability to interact on the web or which sells virus's to bring the site down etc. A screenname like RipUOff with a url link to hackersrus where logging software or computer viruses are sold would fall under that guideline.. amazon.. i think not so much.

Frilly panties and spiked stilettos may disable some of the members from being able to type with more than one hand, but probably won't do much to hurt the site itself.

Maybe Alpha or someone can come along and clarify it for us.

I imagine it's anonymized. Perhaps someone with a wish list will come on and tell us how it works. I see this text on someone's list:

This Wish List includes a ship-to address, so you can pick out an item and have it sent to the owner at checkout.

But didn't see how to go further into the ordering process to see what happens.

But if your wish list said wish list for Deviantly D, that wouldn't identify you. Obviously if it said wish list for Jane Doe of Dime Box, TX it would. Amazon will allow you to use a screen name for the wish list.

Status: offline 		Amazon's preferences can be set so the person sending the gift doesn't see a name/email, not that it would matter since none of the free email providers do any sort of verification and Amazon doesn't care as long as the email is valid. A shipping address isn't necessarily the street address of the person receiving the gift. It's possible to rent a mailbox at the UPS Store and it will have a street address suitable for UPS/FedEx packages so there's no link to the person on the receiving end. Unless you've got a court order, there's no way to get the legal name/address of the person who rented the box.

Plus, if you're sending an Amazon gift card, there's no physical card to mail. It just goes to the receiver's account and they can either use it as a gift card or cash it out if they've linked a checking/savings account to Amazon. Technically, there's no TOS violation. Technically.
