I don't think it has been noticed by the democrats, or ever will be noticed by anyone.

Good thing this isn't a political thread, or it would be in the wrong forum.

I love Clint Eastwood and his work. But huh? It was painful to watch. He's an actor--this is his best?

But as for it's effect on the DNC -- it's the day after Mitt's big speech, and everybody's talking about Clint.

Not a great sign for the RNC.

meh

GreedyTop -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (8/31/2012 9:50:57 AM)

I watched about a minute of it and all I could think was "surprise guest speaker - and that was ALL he could bring to the table?????" I mean, as an actor, I like Clint (I own several of his movies on DVD), but I really think he did more harm to the RNC than he helped.

moveon.org and Rachel Maddow agree.

I was in and out of the room while the video was on - did he ever endorse Romney by name? Or just say when someone isn't doing a good job he should be replaced?

Rachel Maddow: Clint Eastwood RNC Speech Was 'The Weirdest Thing I Have Ever Seen At A Political Convention' (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow was at a loss for words on Thursday after Clint Eastwood finished what was largely considered a bizarre and awkward GOP convention appearance.

"I don't -- I don't -- I don't know what was going on there," Maddow said, seemingly tongue-tied. "Clint Eastwood is 82 years old and I think that -- I don't know if that's what was going on there."

Maddow attempted to recap Eastwood's speech. "It started off with him clearly off-prompter talking, rambling, about conservatives in Hollywood. He did make one point about the end of the war in Afghanistan and fake interviewed an empty chair as if it was Barack Obama, the President of the United States, swearing at him," she said.

As Sen. Marco Rubio took the stage to deliver his speech, Maddow continued to react to Eastwood's remarks.

"That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen at a political convention in my entire life, and it will be the weirdest thing I've ever seen if I live to be 100," she said. "Here's Marco Rubio."

Maddow was not the only journalist to wonder about Eastwood's comments. Brokaw tweeted that Eastwood became famous as being a man of few words. "As a surprise guest on the Tampa stage he had too many words (I say as a friend)," Brokaw wrote.

After the convention was over, Maddow revisited Eastwood's speech and said she did not understand why the video introducing Romney, which she described as "very good," was left out of the prime time hour of coverage so that Eastwood could speak to an empty chair.

"I don't mean to make light of other things, but I think the Clint Eastwood thing really, seriously blew [the Romney campaign's] final night, and they're making light of already, but I cannot believe that it happened," Maddow said.

I agree, it is the day after and the biggest talking point, hell even Willard and his wife have been forced to answer questions about it, while what willard will do for the country is about 3-4 question in to the interviews

The RNC released a press release today about it, so they are in damage control and have lost the talking points, in a day or so everyone will be talking the the DNC so Willard will really be put out of the news cycle, which with all the racist crap the GOP has had in the news it might be a good thing

Not sure if serious......

Regardless of your political positions, it's a fact that this is Obama's race to lose. Nate Silver just predicted Obama's victory at 71.6% likelihood. And with Todd Akin refusing to drop out, the Republicans will be wearing one hell of an albatross, all the way until November. (Even Karl Rove has publicly admitted this.)

Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC!

Oh, if wishing made it so!

Peace and comfort,

Actually, he made me laugh. He said, "We don't need lawyers in the White House"........but Mitt has a law degree from Harvard.

That's some good irony there....

No argument.

If Bush Jr could win a second spot....anything can happen.

DarkSteven -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (8/31/2012 5:09:57 PM)

He targeted Obama, not the DNC.

erieangel -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (8/31/2012 10:27:43 PM)

Eastwood just became what I've thought him to be--an angry white man turned angry old white man. That's basically what he's played in most of his movies too.

Good actor?? Anybody who points a gun, doesn't say very many lines and repeats similar phrases like "make my day" in movie after movie can be an actor. Arnie is another one just like him.

SpaceSpank -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (8/31/2012 10:35:53 PM)

I don't know how anyone can say he destroyed anything.

He reminded me of someone that was shoved up on stage unprepared, and just started making things up because they had no idea what they should be sayin. It was awkward, painful, and just didn't flow well at all. And he just kept going... even over his time... and people just kept letting him and laughing/cheering.

It made me cringe and feel sorry for him. And I like Eastwood. I think for the roles he plays (usually) he's pretty good. Not very versatile, but neither are many other actors/actresses. He fits a limited number of parts and plays them well.

And the part he played and the RNC is obviously not one of his strong points. He should have had a scripted and concise speech... that would have delivered his message much better (and on time).

DeviantlyD -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (9/1/2012 12:48:16 AM)

I was curious (as always) and watched it to see what the big issue was. Personally I just thought his "talking to Obama" bit was rather stupid.

The truly most disturbing thing about all of it was the adulation a celebrity received. I don't really see why any actor/celebrity should be exalted just because they've been in the limelight. Other than providing entertainment (which those he entertains pay for), what has he done for the masses that make him worthy of such adoration?

Endivius -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (9/1/2012 5:55:12 PM)

The speech by Eastwood was just a bunch of random stories and improvisation. I don't know who's idea it was to put a senile actor on stage as your "guest" speaker, but the guy should be fired. What a disaster that was.

Eviscerated??? You must have been watching something else.

Baroana -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (9/1/2012 6:00:35 PM)

Eh.

That's what I thought of that speech.

The audience seemed to eat it up though.

Muttling -> RE: Clint Eastwood just DESTROYED the DNC! (9/2/2012 7:33:36 AM)

I'm still waiting for the GOP to have a birth issue with Mitt Romney since his father wasn't born in the U.S. Oh wait, that's one of those facts that they don't want to discuss.
