You might want to look into nutritional deficiencies, mainly calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, folate, the B Vitamins, as well as proper hydration, proper blood circulation. Most American diets are lacking in vitamins & minerals to preserve health, and as we age and our digestive system works/absorbs less efficiently, that adds another factor. There is also the factor of what drugs one takes that may deplete vitamins/minerals, as well as the side affects they have.
