quote:
ORIGINAL: tweakabelle DS, even granting your explanation of the Judge's motives in full, there remains the fact that his fears are totally delusional, without any possible basis in reality. I am not arguing against that at all. I agree with you. quote:
The UN doesn't do invasions, it doesn't possess a standing army nor, AFAIK, is it potentially capable of either. Not only has the UN never controlled the sovereignty of any country, it has never sought to do so. The thought of a UN takeover of American sovereignty is preposterous. <cough, cough> Libya <cough, cough> Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but the "UN invasion" the Judge was talking about was the UN coming to quell the insurrection against the US government, not as a takeover of the US government. Piddly point, but while we're agreeing the scenario is fantastic fiction fodder, we may as well not mis-state what was said. quote:
A nation's sovereignty is considered inalienable. Any arrangements freely entered into between Obama and the UN are subject to the US Constitution via the Supreme Court, which will automatically reject any infringement on US sovereignty. US sovereignty is not the President's to give away or otherwise compromise. Now, here we have a bit of disagreement. Through treaty after treaty we sign with the UN, we give up a bit of our sovereignty. It's like mission creep, but UN creep. quote:
On any logical reading, there's far more chance of my meeting the Man on the Moon than the Judge's fears materialising. His fears are a Right wing delusion/fantasy and IMHO good grounds for fearing for the Judge's mental competence. On their own, his expressed fears are sufficient grounds for barring him from any public office until his mental issues have been successfully dealt with. To put that slightly differently, on the available evidence, this person is not capable of making correct considered judgements on political matters at the moment. Allowing him to continue in his current office is insane. It is not in the best interests of either the body politic or the judge. Allowing him to stay on the bench is not insane. We do have quite an appellate process. Think of how many more jobs this guy could be creating for lawyers! [8D] lmao I disagree that he needs to be taken off the bench. Let the voters do that. If he's off his rocker, he'll be brought down.
