kalikshama -> Petition: Don't Release Man Accused of Stomping Puppy to Death from Jail (8/22/2012 10:13:16 AM)

Target: Racine County District Attorney's Office

Goal: Do not release man convicted of stomping puppy to death from jail

Mr. Fred Gossett, and his son Curtis Gossett, of Illinois and Wisconsin, respectively, were both recently sentenced to jail time after being convicted of burglary and felony mistreatment of animals. Fred Gossett and his son reportedly broke into a neighbors home and killed a beagle puppy by stomping on its head. Fred Gossett recently had his original $7,500 bond reduced by $4,500 and now the 59-year-old is asking to be released from jail, stating that health issues prevent him from serving his time.

The owner of the 6-month-old beagle puppy reportedly owed Curtis Gossett $13. While the woman and her children were away from their home, Fred Gossett and his son reportedly broke into their home and stomped on their beagle puppy’s head. A neighbor found the puppy still alive, but in horrible shape after the event. The puppy ultimately did not survive. Fred Gossett and his son were both recently charged with burglary for breaking into the home, and with felony mistreatment of animals. Both men face up to seven and a half years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines for burglary, plus an additional year and half in prison and $10,000 in fines for animal mistreatment. Mr.Fred Gossett, however, is asking to be released from jail, stating that he suffers from back problems that will not be adequately addressed in jail. Both Fred and Curtis Gossett’s preliminary hearings are scheduled for August 15th.

By signing this petition, you are demanding that Fred Gossett not be released from jail, and that he receives the maximum jail sentence for needlessly breaking into his neighbor’s home and killing her puppy. Gossett is trying to use his back problems as an excuse to get out of jail. Obviously his back did not bother him so much that it prevented him from breaking into a home and stomping on an innocent animal. Regardless of whatever medical issues he may suffer from, Mr. Gossett still deserves to be punished for his heartless crimes.

They should stomp his head in, then he
wont have to worry about his back anymore.

That is completely sick and twisted. Someone who would do this at all is demented, but over $13???

Personally i advocate death by steel toe capped boot applied to the face repeatedly

Marc2b -> RE: Petition: Don't Release Man Accused of Stomping Puppy to Death from Jail (8/22/2012 11:40:20 AM)

If this guy did this then, by all means, he should get the maximum... the sick fuck.

But...

If I am reading this right, he has not yet been convicted and we are not supposed to punish people before they're convicted.

People are usually jailed before trial for two reasons: They are considered a danger to other people and/or are considered a flight risk. I don't know if there is any precedent for being a danger to small animals. Perhaps there should be, but I don't know. As much as I like the idea of stomping on his head myself, I don't like this idea of punishing a person before they are convicted.

Here in The Netherlands there is a petition to not release the alleged assassin of Pim Fortuyn from jail. Since the bench will react adversely to such a petition, the opposite result is to be expected, just so the bench can demonstrate that they are not influenced by public opinion - and that of course is the intended - not the pretended - effect of such a petition.

Likely the same applies to this case. My recommendation therefore is to ignore the petition - and to take a hard look at the person who took the initiative for the petition.

I have no qualms whatsoever about signing the petition and linking it to Facebook.

Noted from the article that he did not kill the 6 month old puppy, but left it for dead.

If proven this is about as heinous and depraved as you can get, and should merit a lengthy, if not permanent, exclusion from free society.

Right...health issues....I'll explain his gawdamn health issues....If I see that fucker...I'll crush his skull.

(Said, of course, in the most submissive of ways).

I'll PAY 25 grand to see him locked up with a rabid pit bull. Okay....maybe not 25 grand but, easily a pack of Marlboro's.

Of course...in our silly little online world, nothing of any import is meant by that, we're all just "talking here"...just being silly....but, in the art of being silly....I would have no problem seeing this fellow hooked up to a dump truck with limited clothes on and dragged behind a combine, left to thrash around in a cornfield for 2 - 4 weeks...and you know...if he happened to be consumed by such a combine (could be a tiny little bump in the road....combine just happens to go in reverse)....well...that would be just silly....wouldn't it?

Silly stuff.......

Ah, bad writing in the petition - it both says that he was convicted and that they are still facing charges. I wonder if they are in jail because they didn't make bail?

The son confessed to a neighbor: http://www.journaltimes.com/news/local/beagle-puppy-stomped-to-death/article_f0a74ce0-db58-11e1-886a-001a4bcf887a.html

I was thinking the same as Marc2b, but if he has actually been convicted already, that doesn't apply. Still, let him out like the law suggests. The law is about what constraints are placed upon the state. The legal system needs to tend first and foremost to its own integrity. Any petitions should be directed at changing what measures the state may enact in response to animal cruelty. Essentially, changing the law as regards animal cruelty. Don't make it an exception, make it a rule.

More to the point, and to the heart, I prefer him not to be surrounded by guards, cameras and prison security in general. [sm=evil.gif]

I'm sure there are still concerned citizens aplenty out there...

IWYW,
— Aswad.
