Lucylastic -> GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 2:58:08 AM)

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - The Republican Party is once again set to enshrine into its official platform support for "a human life amendment" to the Constitution that would outlaw abortion without making explicit exemptions for rape or incest, according to draft language of the platform obtained exclusively by CNN late Monday.

"Faithful to the 'self-evident' truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed," the draft platform declares. "We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."
<snip>
Republicans have also inserted a "salute" to states pushing "informed consent" laws - an apparent reference to ultrasound bills that have moved through some state legislatures - "mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health-protective clinic regulation."

Now... as the 14th amendment, protects women( as in, they have right over their bodies).
How is this going to work out..anyone?
Take the rights of the woman over the unborn, or the rights of the unborn over the mother??
How is this going to be reconciled??

Social Issues will sooner or later be the death of the Republican Party.

"And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of “conservatism.”

I think that is what they are banking on, to be honest, at least for this election....
But its ok, there is no war on women....

Well with Aken as their "spokesman" - where can they go wrong? EYE ROLL ----> !!

DaddySatyr -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 3:31:12 AM)

I'd fully support a law that allowed for rape, incest, mother's health and non-paternal consent to be exclusions.

I am on record as believing that life begins at conception but a lady should not be forced to put her life perilously close to death in order to bear a child.

A rape or incest victim should not be forced to feed and care for a product of that horrible experience (and in this case it's really just a nod to her mental health)

I don't think it should be a uni-lateral decision except in the aforementioned exclusions.

In the case of consensual procreation, where the mother's life isn't in danger, the father should have some say, also.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

And how many of these people are in favour of abolition of the death penalty?

epiphiny43 -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 4:22:32 AM)

Or realize they are working to elect a man who expects to have 4 wives in paradise? Now Them are life affirming family values! I get odd expressions from Morman wives when I ask them how many husbands they will have in the hereafter. (uh..One?)

Killing unborn children is unGodly. After they grow up and make some choices we don't like, execute 'um!
I think there is some conflict there. It doesn't seem a popular perception among our political evangelists? I never noticed any sub clauses or qualifications in the 6th Commandment. So people split hairs on word meanings? And largely ignore the biblical beginning of life, 'quickening'?

I've never had that point explained to me by any right wing bible thumper, actually. Why is one rule good for unborn children, but not full-grown adults? I've wondered if it's something to do with said unborn children being 'innocents', untainted by Satan's malign influence in this world, or similar.

JanahX -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 4:48:58 AM)

What I dont understand is that being a Buddhist - what does their Bible beliefs have to do with my beliefs? The Bible has nothing to do with my way of thinking. NADA - so who the hell are they to tell me what is morally right and wrong? These people are a SAD NOTE.

Im not sure where the hell these people get off thinking they should be saving peoples souls in Gods name - while they rape, lie, pillage their communities and if the American public is unfortunate enough, their state - and maybe country.

As for Akin and Ryan - someone should put those two in a jail cell with some rapists for a few hours - see if they "get pregnant" - (since they seem to have such a firm understanding of how reproduction works).

I agree, it seems their are some religious fanatics in this country who are just as extreme as those in other countries they must save us from.

farglebargle -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 5:40:16 AM)

Well, given that the nuts look in the bible and see that the penalty for raping a virgin is 50 silver + having to marry her + NEVER being able to divorce her, than you can understand their sick, twisted point of view.

Rape is just another property crime against -- not the person raped -- but her family. AND she gets a husband out of it, so why should she complain.

In any other context, we'd lock these people up.

slvemike4u -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 6:35:15 AM)

Ronnie invited them into the tent......now they drive the fucking bus.
The comical thing is there are those,god knows (pun intended)we have enough right here,who think this is a good thing,who feel this is a country that has lost it's path and some good old time religion will set it right.
In reality all that good old time religion is doing is steadily and steadily making the Republican brand a "niche" party,unlikely to attract the diversified voter a political party will need to stay vibrant in the coming years.
The shame of that is that the Party does have things to say,does have a POV that needs to be represented in American Politics.....but that POV is distorted by the very noise the fundies make and drive more away than it attracts.
The Party willeither continue in it's death spirals or shed the fundies and reclain it's place as an American political(not religious) organization....sadly.at least for this cycle they have chosen to continue the march towards mediocrity .

DarkSteven -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 6:47:12 AM)

Akin just killed that for them. Every time the GOP proudly state what their abortion platform is, there will be a footnote in the media about what Akin said.

Does a fetus get twelve years and multiple appeals? How about a pardon from the Governor?

Because the adult made the choice to commit the crime, was tried by a jury of his peers, and sentenced using due process... Can you say the same for a fetus?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: GOP prepares tough anti-abortion platform (8/21/2012 11:27:06 AM)

Remember that the "right to life" faction's interest in life ENDS at birth. It's about the FETUS, not the child who might need things like food, and education.

I don't disagree with this. It's a conundrum, isn't it?
